No, not at all. But if I'm dropping $35 to go out with you for your birthday, I will not be getting you a gift. My presence is my $35 gift to you.

Why don't you leave it up to your wife? If she wants to buy her friend a gift, so be it. If she does not, great.

All I said is that, if she wants to buy her a gift, many fucks will be given, and vocally shared.

But why? Do you give your wife shit every time she spends more than $35?

LOL. What don't you get? I don't give a shit about $35 to go to this place. I wouldn't give a shit if it were more. My OPINION, is that it is incredibly stupid to give (an adult) a gift on top of that, and even more stupid for said adult to expect a gift.

Are you 100% sure she is expecting something? And if your wife WANTS to give her friend a gift, why does it bother you so much? That is what I do not get. I love buying and making presents for my friends. It is seriously one of my favorite things to do. I don't find it stupid at all.

It bothers me because I think it's stupid, and I'm allowed to have an opinion? It is OUR money, right? If I want to go out and drink an 18 pack a day, spending OUR money, isn't my wife entitled to her opinion towards my actions?

Of course you can have an opinion. But you just said earlier it's not about the money, so it sounds like you are using that as excuse to be a curmudgeon. I find that life is much more enjoyable when I don't worry about what other people do or what makes them happy.

Etb...its 35 bucks, not a 1000. If she is your wife's friend and wants to get something for her then just let her. I highly doubt spending a 100 total for a friend's b day is a big deal

35 bucks could go a long way towards saving up for the passport that he probably doesn't have.

Its infinitely more complicated than just paying your own bill.

I don't think so.

If that were the case, restaurants would have no problem with individual tabs for large groups. I'm assuming it's easier to have one bill, split x amount of ways evenly.

So splitting the tab is something that I'm frequently dealing with and yes there is always that asshole who orders an extra drink and a meal $10 more expensive then anyone else's.

It's whatever though.

ETB it's $35 who cares, tell your wife to go and not to bring a gift. Or get her a $10 gift. Not going to break the bank.
The bolded is what would be annoying. I also wouldn't want to be the one that orders the most expensive thing or gets an extra side because I wouldn't want to be "that guy". I'd probably throw in the extra $5 or whatever to cover my extra, but still, as an accountant the whole idea just bothers me, lol.
