Am I the only person who has no idea why pine tar is illegal? It doesn't change the pitch. It only gives a pitcher better grip. Batters are allowed to use it or a glove for better grip on the bat. Why can't pitchers have better grip. And yes I know they have rosin but that's not doing anything when it's cold.
Regardless it's the rule and he deserved to be ejected. Though it's walking a fine line for a team to challenge it, since it's probably 100% that one of their pitchers does it too. Though hides it much better

Probably because its just easier to ban all of it for pitchers then try to decipher if its pinetar or pinetar being used as a mixture to cover up something else.Midstate01;1608457 wrote:Am I the only person who has no idea why pine tar is illegal? Yeah exactly. Batters actually prefer pitchers using it because they have less of a chance of being hit by a wild pitchLaley23;1608465 wrote:Probably because its just easier to ban all of it for pitchers then try to decipher if its pinetar or pinetar being used as a mixture to cover up something else.

You would think Sean Casey and George grande, with how much random out of this world shit they talk about, would talk about that at some point.Ironman92;1608584 wrote:Me either but I don't pay much attention to baseball...

There is a small chance I heard Curt Schilling say this once last year. It sounds familiar. Or Classy could have said it once before and that's how I remember it lol.GOONx19;1608581 wrote:Lol where do you come up with this shit?

The thing that gets me is, he would've been able to get away with it if it wasn't painfully obvious. Gotta do better...

Yeah, I was reading the article on it last night and the Sox guys were basically saying that Farrell had to say something because the dude was just flaunting the tar with the way he had it slabbed on his neck. You see guys have it on their hats all the time, or a guy like Buchholz, who ramps up the sunscreen to pancaked-makeup levels for the same purpose, but doing it that way was just so stupidly obvious, it was hilarious.Azubuike24;1608595 wrote:The thing that gets me is, he would've been able to get away with it if it wasn't painfully obvious. I see where another Padre is having his second Tommy John surgery.
That is the second one this year for the Pads that a player had his second TJ. The other was the local kid Cory Luebke. Bad luck? Poor guidance from the club on the rehab?

In Classys defense, I've heard tons of people say they don't mind it cause batters don't want a wild pitcher throwing.
-Rick Manning
-Harold Reynolds
-Kevin Millar
-Whoever was on MLB Network Radio (I think Michael Kay)

If a pitcher would have better control with the pine tar then I guess one could say he should be able to paint the corners of the zone much better and more often, and maybe give you a mph or two more on a FB or more break on the CB with the better grip. That, as a hitter, would be more 'worrisome' than the occassional HBP
