And Kershaw's more direct control over the outcome of his 27 games makes him just as valuable**, per WAR, as a position player. Trout's impact during a game is negligible when compared to Kershaw's and that's why he has just as many WAR as Kershaw.

Meh. As a pitcher you have a DIRECT impact on the game. Batters/defenders do not. I think a pitcher is just as valuable as an everyday player at end of the year.

I disagree with it because they have their own award (CYA). But that's the only reason.

Lets also admit that the NL MVP (and NL ROY) candidates were...crappy. A pitcher isn't winning MVP if a position player absolutely dominates.

Agreed, but that's sort of a different argument. I'm not saying pitchers should routinely win or anything, I'm only saying that the overall impact/value between an elite pitcher and an elite position player is close enough that you shouldn't automatically disregard someone because they are a pitcher.

Yeah super crappy to still lead the NL in HRs ans SLG% while missing the last 17 games due to being injured by a pitcher.
