Got it! That's a hell of a way to head into the playoffs.
Tigers and Reds blowing their games open in the 8th, so DET will win AL Central, STL will win NL Central, barring a 9th inning catostrophic collapse.

Hell of a catch to seal the no-no.

A's lead 2-0 but runner on 1st and 3rd after a fluke kick save by the pitcher cost him an out at first. Unlucky

Need 3 more outs and I'd keep Sonny Gray in as he's been nails and only 84 pitches thru 8
Doolittle is awesome...but Gray is completely invested in this game. Playoffs on the line.

The curse of Dunn is turning!!!
Rosales bobbles and then Odur inexplicably goes towards 2nd and the ball went to where he was for a probable DP to end the inning.
4-0 A's

Bobby Abreu
Replaced after his hit and his career is over
2470 career hits
574 doubles
1475 walks
1453 runs
1363 RBI
288 HR
400 SB
Great career, regardless of his longevity

Good bye to
Paul Konerko, Bobby Abreu and Derek Jeter. Adam Dunn when the A's are eliminated.
Anyone I miss who have already announced? Some guys will be forced into retirement.

Did really feel like posting this in the playoff thread... but Joe Madden leaving the Rays... pretty interesting. I always liked him.

And he's leaving on his own. Enacted his opt out clause.

Curious to see where he ends up. Reports are already indicating that his former boss Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers are sticking with Mattingly. Personally I'd can Mattingly and hire Maddon but that's just me.

I would take Maddon over Mattingly easily.lhslep134;1666410 wrote:Curious to see where he ends up. Reports are already indicating that his former boss Andrew Friedman and the Dodgers are sticking with Mattingly. Personally I'd can Mattingly and hire Maddon but that's just me.
Hopefully he stays away from the Twins.

I'd be more worried about him going to the Tigers after taking a year off to chill. I can't imagine, after doing all he did with a small-market club, that he would pick another like the Twins over a team where ownership writes big checks regularly. And I'm pretty sure Ausmus is a barely functional derp as Detroit's manager, turning a team that does have a lot of legit talent in its line-up and rotation into a squad that barely won its division before getting stomped in the playoffs due to how no one seemed to really bother doing much to fix arguably MLB's worst bullpen. Fucking Joe Nathan would have been released about 25 times last year by virtually any other club, while that dipshit kept him as their closer all year.like_that;1666411 wrote:I would take Maddon over Mattingly easily.

Best hope is that after one more year of Mattingly, LA decides to make the change. Or another big-money team is looking to make a change.

I just read that Maddon's opt-out clause got triggered by Friedman's leaving for the Dodgers. That's some excellent contract negotiating/writing by his agent to have an opt-out clause based on your most important boss's departure.
