I92 Probabaly appreciate this more than anyone.

Drop my rental off at LAX Hertz, only to
ride the shuttle with Ken Griffey Jr. He is on the same flight as me to Minneapolis. Really nice guy. Actually engaged us in conversation for a full 45 minutes.

Burn in hell.

He asked me a question before the 8th inning on Father's Day about 6 years ago.

Figured that would be your response lol. He was in LA to watch his son play UCLA (for Arizona). Had some great stories about travel (that were hilarious to us as fellow delta flyers) and about some people he hates in baseball.

So all the years he played and all the time he spent around the game the only baseball player he hates is Roger Clemens.

Probably would've been my very first guess.

Were any of those travel stories about how he and Larkin left the last game of the season (in SD I think) early to catch their flight?

No. It was more funny stories about post playing travel. Dealing with awful airline service etc.

For the most part, he was more interested in what my co-worker and I do lol.

Victor heading back to the Tigers for 4/70.

I know he is coming off a career year, but that is a horrendous contract for a 36 year old DH with his injury history.

Unless he is going to be shot up full of HGH this contract will be an albatross by year 3 I suspect.

Jesus. I never thought he'd get 4. Is it front loaded?

Glad the Tribe stayed away from that...I wanted him back, but not for nearly 20 million a year. Surprised he got that much.

Glad to see the prevalence of FIP in the voters' minds. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/what-corey-kluber-winning-the-cy-young-tells-us/

Holy shit! He should have followed the tried-and-true advice to always drive on the middle road of the multiple you're seeing if he was that gone.

Voters are really digging in and seemingly like to find reason to vote for the slight underdog. FIP is pretty big here. Looking across the board at the typical numbers you give a slight edge to King....but Kluber was better the second half and was just a stud when Cleveland needed it most.

As it pulled to close late in the season Kluber remained nails and in the game the Mariners needed the most King was lit up by the Blue Jays....that stuff sticks with some for sure. Mixing in that Kluber pitched in a medium level pitcher's park while Felix pitched in one of the better pitcher parks and King had an above average defense while Kluber pitched with one of the worst I have witnessed.

I wouldn't have had a problem with either of them winning.

Kershaw won MVP. Not a fan of pitchers winning MVP at all. He pitched 27 games, that is only 16% of the regular season. MVP should go to an every day player.

In other news Marlins/Stanton are in discussions for a 300m long term contract. If that is true, the Trout extension is a steal.

I once shared this belief until I was shown something similar. Are you ready for that argument to be destroyed?

Mike Trout: 705 at bats

Clayton Kershaw: 749 batters faced

Sure seems like Clayton had as many batter/pitcher interactions as an everyday player.

Trout impacts the game defensively as well.

How many of those 705 plate appearances were against position players? Kershaw likely had 50 battles against pitchers batting. Kershaw also doesn't control the defense behind him and other than his plays you have to take into account Trout's defense and base running.

Also....the plate appearance/batters faced are typically close but he also pitching what 28 games? That's 134 games the Dodgers played where he did nothing whatsoever. If LeBron played 16 games and the Cavs were 16-0 in those games and he went 40/20/20 average in those 16.....would he have a prayer in the MVP voting? Peyton played in 4 games, went 4-0 with 500 yards and 6 TD and no picks avg...MVP?

Kershaw played a huge role in 20 wins.

All this said....I would've given it to Kershaw in the NL as well. Had Stanton played the last month and stayed on track mostly...would've given it to him.
