He's not really pitching anymore, just worried about locating everything and taking something off of his pitches

Twins are in the 7th inning and their #9 hitter Jordan Shafer has been on base via hit or walk 5x already.

Can someone who is a sabrmetric guy explain to me how Jason Heyward and his .270/11/53 is 4th in all of MLB with a 6.0 WAR right now?

Stanton, who ranks 3rd with a 6.2 WAR has a slash line of .296/33/97.

Why do the advanced metrics seemingly adore Heyward the way they do?

He's a great defensive player.

Great defense is a fantastic thing....but Stanton has driven in 44 more runs......one cannot say that Heywards defense has saved even close to that.

I am not buying alot of these new stats they are throwing out there.

You really can't compare them using RBI. Stanton bats 3rd and 65% of the games Heyward is the leadoff hitter. Now it isn't as much difference as you might think with RBI opportunities. Stanton only has 7 more chances with runners on 2nd or 3rd....biggest difference is simply a runner on 1st and really not that much. All in all the difference I'd guess is around 10-15 RBI.

Now I'd use OPS and Stanton is 2nd in baseball at .961 while Heyward is a pedestrian .741.....a huge difference (bigger than the gap between Todd Frazier and Cozart offensively) Heyward is great in RF. Great jumps, ridiculous range, great arm....but Stanton is pretty darn good in RF as well and both are close in base running. No way does Heyward outplay Stanton in RF nearly enough to make up for the .220 difference in OPS

I've never loved the WAR stat....it benefits OF and utility players too much. Doesn't pass the eye test.

Watching A's/Angels showdown and HP ump Greg Gibson called Trout and Pujols out on high strike 3's looking, both looked high and Pujols didn't look that close.

And as I type he rings up A's Moss on a low inside pitch. Glad he is there for the fans SMH.

Their offense has dropped from 5 runs a game to 4 since they traded away Cespedes...hopefully Dunn can help and make it to the playoffs.

Phils going to the bottom of the 9th in Atlanta trying for a combined pitcher no hitter. Hamels went the first 6 taking 108 pitches in walking 5 and hitting 1. Revere has 25% of his season's RBIs in this game.
