tl;dr: beer companies (Sam Adams, Guiness) and political figures from NYC and Boston protested St. Patrick's day parades because while members of the LGBT community were allowed to march; they were not allowed to identify themselves as gay or carry gay-friendly signs.

So...what's the big deal? It's a St. Patrick's day parade. No one gives a shit about gay-friendly signs. I'll admit I don't pay near enough attention to this kind of stuff, but it seems like the LGBT community has to make this an issue. Are there any other groups or minorities who make such a commotion about promoting their views?
I just don't understand why any and every social event needs to be represented with gay-friendly propaganda? It has absolutely nothing to do with St. Patrick's day.

Parade organizers have said gay groups are not prohibited from marching, but are not allowed to carry gay-friendly signs or identify themselves as LGBT.

Somehow, this equates to discrimination.

And look up the term pyrrhic victory. People discriminate against others all of the time. My wife goes to an all-female club because she doesn't like working out in front of men. Is that discriminatory? Definitely. Is it legal? Probably. Would I be a total jackass if I brought suit against them? 100% correct.

Honestly if I were to organize a German-American parade in my hometown I would be peeved if the LGBT community showed up and acted as if it was their own parade. What's the need to push your message or spread awareness here? For fucks sake there is an openly gay man about to be drafted into the NFL......it's not even about tolerance at this point.

As the organizer goes on to say in the aforementioned article,

“Gay people march in this all the time. Every year. This isn’t the first time,” Wuschke said. “We don’t ban gay people. We ban groups that are trying to make a statement.”

It doesn't help a cause to attempt to make every single event about that cause.

Normal people should boycott those companies that pulled out of the festivities because of the lack of gayness allowed.

Gay people are the worst. Not everything has to be about making a statement.

I'd think that this is the wrong event to protest since St. Patrick drove all of the gays out of Ireland and into the sea with that big staff of his.

Some gays do, but not all. My sister literally did not even know that the SCOTUS said DOMA was unconstitutional until I pointed it out to her. She would love to be married eventually, but she isn't out there protesting or marching.

Not normal doesnt equal bad necessarily. Being 7 foot tall is not normal. I just cant wait for both sides to not care and we can move on. Allow gays to have civil unions and focus on issues that affect everyone.

There is nothing wrong with being gay - guys or women (and some guys like that in women - I'm not sure, but I'm willing to listen to arguments). There is something wrong with being treated specially because of it.
