Part of the game, if you're not mentally strong enough to handle that then you're probably not a very good player anyway
This.
Sportsmanship has been dead in this country for at least 35 years. As a coach I demanded it of my players as a matter of personal dignity and respect for the game, but we always taught the importance of a strong mental game and focus, not just for performance in crucial situations but as a 'defense against the dark arts'. We expected and used 'trash talk' as a reminder to focus on key fundamentals.

If you have to ask the question..."Is this poor sportsmanship?"....well, you already know the answer.

The second one was being a poor sport. If you just waited till the end of the FT's and then said a simple good game, it'd be fine. But you were obviously trying to rub a little salt in the wound.
Mostly just said that because I was pissed that the foul was even called but yeah you're probably right. That's the same thing my team said but they didn't care because we got the win.

A)made the second and missed the last shot and the rebound was put right back in to tie the game.

THEN

B)Took basketball girl home because he made you look bad
I would have been pissed about B. She's the hottest girl I'm banging right now(also the most expensive).

This is ridiculous. It's adult league basketball. Talk trash all you want. In my adult league, I had a buddy at the line, and I was giving him shit while he was shooting... the ref gave him another shot b/c I was disconcerting the shooter! LOL... WTF!?

At my hoops league the other day, we were up by 3 with 5 seconds left and we got called for a foul on a 3 point attempt. During the free throw attempt, I told the person on the free throw line "You know you have to make all 3 of these right, or the games over." He ended up missing the first one to which I remarked "Well the games over, good game".

At the end of the game, a few of their team members told me that I was a 'bad sport' and they wouldn't shake my hand.

Thoughts? I think they MAD. LOL : thumbup:
Considering it came from you, yeah, its BS>

Actually, I don't think this originated in basketball, I think it pretty much started in the early 80's with the NY Jets Mark Gastineau and his 'sack dance'. TV sensationalized his taunting of the QB after a sack...and it became fashionable, cool and profitable to do that kind of stuff. Sportsmanship, as I was taught and knew, died that day. It will never come back.

Sportsmanship is still taught in youth leagues and prevalent there. It's just once you get to high school you start to see it degrade.

There is no longer a stigma associated with being what, in the old days, would have been considered to be a poor sport.
lol, no.
Dynamite drop in, guy.:p

If you are referring to the fact that there have always been 'poor sports' thoughout history, that is true (duh) ...they just were considered more of an embarrassment and not held up for emulation. The notable exception here being boxing where it seems it has always had a place.

Great post out of left field. Has nothing to do with reality. Keep trying, friend.

Yeah, for you young whipper-snappers, back in MY day that kind of talking would have been rewarded with a peach basket shoved up the a-hole! :RpS_razz:

True. But it is sleeper and the whole point of him existing on this site is to have an opposite and extreme opinion to someone in every thread. See his posts on religion or black people or whatever. Also I was listening to a Joe Rogan podcast so the silly bitch part got slipped in there.

Either way talking trash or getting upset at someone talking trash are absolutely stupid things to do in a rec league anything. But yeah, a bit of "hey not to put the pressure on but this shot decides the game" isn't really in poor taste.
