My ideal (while staying realistic) way the group plays out:
RD 1:
USA 1 - Ghana 0
Germany 3 - Portugal 1
RD 2:
USA 1 - Portugal 2
Ghana 0 - Germany 2
RD 3
USA - 1 Germany 1
Portugal 1 - Ghana 1
1. Germany 7 pts
2. USA 4 pts (advance on GD 0 vs. -1)
3. Portugal 4 pts
4. Ghana 1 pts
RD 1:
USA 1 - Ghana 0
Germany 3 - Portugal 1
RD 2:
USA 1 - Portugal 2
Ghana 0 - Germany 2
RD 3
USA - 1 Germany 1
Portugal 1 - Ghana 1
1. Germany 7 pts
2. USA 4 pts (advance on GD 0 vs. -1)
3. Portugal 4 pts
4. Ghana 1 pts

Yep, and if we win that one we're pretty much assured to at least have a chance going into match 3. Definite must win.Automatik;1618535 wrote:Ghana is all that concerns me. Like someone already said, we lose that....we're fucked. It really irks me how that team has our number.

I am not all that sold on Germany having the group locked up by the third game. I see portugal drawing them, and I wouldn't be surprise if they beat them.

I agree, but I do think Germany having it locked up is the most likely scenario.like_that;1618577 wrote:I am not all that sold on Germany having the group locked up by the third game. I see portugal drawing them, and I wouldn't be surprise if they beat them.
Portugal is is obviously scary with Ronaldo, and they looked real good in the Euros 2 yrs ago, but that lineup doesn't scare me the way Germany does (famous last words). Germany is probably the most loaded team in the tourney along with Spain.

I think we see a major disappointment out of one of the big teams and my bold prediction is Germany. It seems every international tourney they get handed a cupcake group. Not this time, and it will be interesting to see if they have some adversity to respond to.Laley23;1618623 wrote:I agree, but I do think Germany having it locked up is the most likely scenario.

I see it going like this:
2-0 win vs Ghana
0-2 loss to Portugal
The game against Germany IMO will be huge. I see Germany and Portugal BOTH beating Ghana. I see Germany beating Portgual.
So the standings before we finish with Germany will look like this:
Germany 2-0 -6 PT (somewhere around +4 GD)
Portugal 2-1 - 6 PT (somewhere around +2 GD)
USA 1-1 - 3 PT (somewhere around 0 GD)
Ghana 0-3 - 0 PT
Therefore I will we'll need a win against Germany and itll have to be by 2 goals.

Their Euro 2012 group was Portugal, Netherlands, and Denmark. They didn't drop a point.like_that;1618896 wrote:I think we see a major disappointment out of one of the big teams and my bold prediction is Germany. Their WC 2010 Group wasnt that tough, but this group of players were pretty young and in their first tourney. They dismantled England and Argentina in the knockout rounds.

Personally I think this tourney is Brazil's or Argentina's to lose. However, if a European team is going to win, it's going to be Spain, Germany, or Belgium (COME ON BELGIUM).
England, Italy, France, Netherlands, Bosnia, Greece, Portgual, etc can all GFT they aren't winning. Not on my watch.

If United sign Robben, I'm going to go chop down a tree and write an angry letter to Van Gaal.

Great, then we can see Robben dive around on the regular.

Well I just got a little less excited about the WC. It's going to be weird not seeing Landon Donovan out there in the red white and blue.

Lol... in your defense you did post out the whole roster
.
I got out of a meeting and checked my phone and saw the twitter announcement. I had to go get an asprin and some water cause of it(or it could have been the 2 hour pointless meeting). But I was surprised no one else had posted anything about it yet. Just a shame we won't get to see LD in one last WC.

I'm glad we have 23 players better than Donovan, as much as it sucks to see him left off.

I am shocked as much as the next about Landycakes, but I am not heartbroken. I don't mind moving another direction.
I am interested in hearing what/if Jurgen says about the situation AND what/if Landy says anything about it too.

This whole Julian Green obsession is just questionable. The kid doesn't even play.

I don't think we have 23 players better the Landy.
If the US is tied 0-0 with Germany in that final game with 10 minutes to go and advancement on the line who do you want to sub in for instant offense. I would easily choose Landy over Wojo or Green.
Not to mention our defense is fucking terrible. I will be surprised if the US wins a single game in Brazil.

Exactly. Our defense is going to be exposed by Ronaldo. Wojo I'm okay with as a 4th option because he's more of a poacher. I still can't wrap my head around the Green thing. It was obvious that his fate was decided a long time ago when Klinsmann convinced him to sign with the United States. Sorry this kid maybe a future prospect but he's playing in the German 3rd league.sportchampps;1619015 wrote:I don't think we have 23 players better the Landy.

Leaving Donovan off is wrong on various levels, most importantly his experience and leadership...what a travesty.

Who cares. If klinsman thinks it's the right call, I trust he knows what he's doing

He never liked Donovan anyway. I think it's wrong to leave him off, but wtf do I know.
