The other thread has a lot of age to it. Might as well try to keep it year-by-year, right?

World Cup year!

USMNT-hopeful, Brek Shea, signed a 28-day emergency loan to Barnsley.

He is one who needs something positive going for him. He goes from struggling to gain match experience at Stoke to a struggling Barnsley side. Too bad for him. I always wanted good things to happen for him. He was good for MLS and American soccer.

A new soccer thread just doesn't feel right.

Good to see Chelsea get a win today. My dude Torres got a goal. They've been playing a bit better lately.

I pondered it before I did it. I thought it'd be nice for World Cup purposes.

Good for Bob Bradley, hired in Norway to coach Stabæk.

Camp Cupcake looks interesting. I'd like to see DeAndre Yedlin get a real shot

:)

I hope so too. I'm also bummed no Crew guys are getting looks (Trapp or Josh Williams, primarily).

Am I missing something with this training camp roster? Where is Bradley, Howard, and altidore?

They are with their club teams. It's just for some friendlies.

Some guys trying to crack the USMNT for Brazil.

#1. Josh Williams will NEVER make the USMNT let alone an MLS all-star game. He's so unbelievably average its insane.

#2. Trapp is just too young. His time will come.

Trapp's young, but Yedlin is in? Luis Gil is in too. Shane O'Neill is 20, too.

I agree with Williams, to an extent. Some defenders chosen aren't anything that much better -- Harrington, Klute, Myers, O'Neill, Sinovic? Out of anyone on the Crew, I had to pick a couple of guys who may be in consideration for a camp. I was struggling to find anyone else (especially with the departure of Marshall).

Yedlin is in a position of need...

I don't agree with your second point though, every single defender you named is better than Williams. JW is a liability almost every other game he plays. I wouldn't even mind him being benched on the Crew, let alone making a US camp.

Yedlin is in a position of need, but what about Gil and O'Neill? My thoughts on Trapp...if he's a potential USMNTer, then let's do everything we can to get him experience now with the senior team. Especially in this camp. Why not? What's it going to hurt? He needs to get in there and play with a guy like Beckerman. Trapp was arguably one of the best players for the USMNT during the U20 World Cup in Turkey. He was a consistent contributor. I would argue that he needed to find the ball more at times.

Like I said, it was hard to pick anyone out of Columbus to throw in the mix. Williams could make an argument at some moments throughout the season, statistically, he's not that much off of those guys I listed. He's actually scored more goals than all of them have (I believe).

I'm with you about Trapp, was just trying to explain why I think he didn't make it... the US is loaded at CM/DMid.

I see what youre saying about Columbus, but I truly think Williams shouldn't even be brought up. His defense was downright awful at points last season. He can't distribute out of the back, can't mark, and struggles with forwards who make good runs off the ball. He is good in the air though (goals), but thats about all he has going for him.

Thinking about getting tickets to the friendly up in LA vs South Korea on feb 1st. I really enjoyed the friendly vs Guatemala in San Diego back in the summer, but was super disappointed in the turnout. Then again San Diego is northern mexico so I don't expect them to ever root for the US team.

Wow...rumors from FIFA that 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be a winter one. Not really THAT much of a surprise they are thinking it...but it was leaked that it is more than just "thought."

This could put a kink in many leagues around the world.

Bradley and Jermaine Defoe to TFC. WOW.

My buddy, Ross, just got signed by the Crew though. Pretty sick.

Saw all that...crazy about Bradley and Defoe! Congrats to your buddy, I'm really hoping for some positive steps in Columbus.

More rumors, the Bundesliga slipped up and said that FIFA and UEFA are contemplating a summer (i.e. MLS-style) schedule for clubs! That's a smart move. I've been saying it for years. MLS needs to stay the same and move the rest of the world to the same. It makes sense. Why take the best months of the year off and play in miserable cold, if you don't have to?
