Does anyone know why the MLS is barely on tv? How do they expect to grow the interest for this league when you get 1 game per week? We see more MLS games out here on the spanish channels then the American channels.

Because it sucks. Poor countries play soccer because they can barely afford the necessary equipment. We have better sports available and even made up ones like men's slow pitch softball are better to watch than a 1 - nil 2 hours worth of guys kicking a ball around

Stupid Americans. I'm in Vegas right now and went to go place some money on USA in Brazil. Opened at 75-1 and are at 10-1. Unreal how much we have bet down the odds. Anyway, I didn't make a bet at 10-1, wasn't worth it.
I put $10 on The Netherlands at 18-1 though!

I got 50-1 on USA when my sister was in Vegas in November. Can't believe it's down to 10-1.Laley23;1612559 wrote:Stupid Americans. Also, what are odds for UK winning it all next year? Lol

It's the television contracts that happen. It's different in different markets. NBC Sports Network paid a decent amount of money and shows maybe one game a week (Saturday or Sunday afternoons). Other than that, that's the only nationwide television deal.Ytowngirlinfla;1612507 wrote:Does anyone know why the MLS is barely on tv? Columbus Crew are on TWC Sports Network (or whatever the channel is called). That is a big deal since all Crew games are blacked out within 75 miles -- even if they are streamed through MLS website. Here in Kansas, all SKC games are on a local Kansas/Kansas City television channel. I believe Galaxy has a similar deal.
Unfortunately, it's what MLS is given. Early on, the league had to pay television to get televised. So, I'd say we've come a long way. Hopefully it'll continue to get better. There are definitely more advertisements for MLS on television. I guess to make it better is American soccer fans have to ensure they tune in to support the league whenever they can. Outside of idiot commentators (Lalas, Twellman), the broadcasts are typically good -- my only other complaint is the Americanized camera angles of zooming in all the time and also not showing the whole field. I watch most of the time, and when I can't, I DVR the games. I do agree that MLS will improve when the viewership (live and at home) gets better. Without the domestic support, the game will not grow as it should.

It's kinda annoying because we watch a lot of soccer, typically there are games on daily. We watch Liga MX, La Liga and Ligue 1. There are at least one of those leagues playing. Of course all in spanish but we are okay with that. MLS is expanding teams but doesn't have a major TV contract. Honestly it has come a long way but without a major TV deal this league won't grow in popularity which the league desperately needs.OSH;1612564 wrote:It's the television contracts that happen. The NBCSN deal is/was considered a "major TV deal." The value of the contract and the exposure to more households -- way more than what was previously Fox Soccer Channel.Ytowngirlinfla;1612571 wrote:It's kinda annoying because we watch a lot of soccer, typically there are games on daily. MLS is going to the highest bidder AND however they can be put in more households. That was the case with Columbus, they didn't really have much...so, [unfortunately] TWC Sports was the highest bidder. It hurts most of Ohio in tuning in, unless they have TWC. But...the value of the contract was worth it to Mark McCullers (at the time). I imagine the backlash may have taught the organization a thing or two. Surely the 11,000 fans at the stadium aren't helping anything.
NBCSN was only a 2-year deal or whatever, so it'll be up after this season. Depending on how good the rumors are (Soccer by Ives and The Goalkeeper), there could be a huge contract involving Fox Sports and ESPN -- http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/thegoalkeeper/NBC-to-lose-MLS-rights-in-2015-ESPN-Fox-likely-to-share-new-deal.html.

Suarez crying like a little bitch that he is. Epic collapse by liverpuke to give up 3 goals in 9 minutes to CP.

No the ref for the game sucked balls. Not sure how the hell you miss that. I would expect him to get suspended 3 to 5 games for that.Sonofanump;1613445 wrote:was a card given to either?

The initial step can be forgiven with just a RC. The prolonged thrust and refusal to get off the leg is absurd and needs action.
