Unconfirmed rumblings that an Ohio State BEAT WRITER knew the RB coach was leaving, but held off on reporting it so not to lose Mike Weber.
Are unconfirmed rumblings about the same as quoting someone in the comments section of an article?

Lol at this whole story. Weber is a baby. He can fuck off for all I care. Go to um and lose to osu...

Michigan fans trashed this kid. Said he was scared of competition. Called him a traitor. Now act like they have his back.

Welcome to recruiting...
Where coaches leave the day after signing day. Where coaches hire players coaches and parents to work at their university. It's cutthroat.

Weber and his coach both sound dumb and hypocritical.

Also beat writers aren't paid by osu. Who cares what they do with info. That's their choice.

Actually most don't have his back. He wanted to be at OSU and then trashed the UM coaching staff. I think Weber is in a bit of a pickle.

To be fair, UCLA took some heat for doing the same thing. You're right, it does happen in recruiting.

UCLA (as you said Web) and ND did the same thing.
Also Florida did, but Jefferson found out and didn't sign.

This is exactly why kids need to pick a school for the University and for the program....NOT for a specific coach.
Easier said than done. Recruiting is all about developing a relationship. Yes, the school is a big part of it. But don't kid yourself, the main recruiter, as well as the head coach play a HUGE role in getting a kid to commit.
Thing is, after that, its real life. That coach isn't going to be hanging out with the kid on campus. ONce the kid steps foot on campus, it is what it is. Its about the program and other players they connect with.
I feel for Weber. But this shit happens every year. If he stays, he'll be fine once all this blows over. If he wants out, let him go to UM. OSU is loaded at RB so I am not too concerned.

Also, OSU is now the target being on top of the world. So anything like this is going to make big media news. Goes with the territory.

It seems fairly obvious that position coaches for major power programs would be both in demand and interested in advancing in their careers. I'm not sure why these kids and those who advise them wouldn't get that.

These kids have parents/guardians/advisers. Drayton has been interviewing for various jobs for several years, it just takes a quick bit of research to find that out.

At the same time, there are quotes from Drayton talking to Weber about him being his coach. So why would Weber think he might not be, at least short term?

I'm only curious to see what they told him. Do you have any links?

Yup and most of the time, the parents and advisors are more unrealistic than the kids are. Hey I get it, all I am saying is that Weber has a right to be upset. I don't care for his coach doing what he is doing. That isn't going to help anyone. But as far as the kid is concerned, I feel for him. Yes, its the nature of the beast. And he will be ok no matter what happens.
I am as big an OSU fan as anyone. But this doesn't go over well with me. Maybe more to the story ( I did read where Drayton didn't interview until yesterday and was hired). So who knows.

I can understand a guy getting butthurt when the head coach leaves, maaaybe even the OC/DC coordinator, but a position coach? Nah.

Supposedly his family wanted him to go to Michigan. So it doesn't always matter.

The position coach is who you will spend the most time with, and most likely recruited you.

True, but when a position coach changes it shouldnt change much in terms of what you as player will be doing. A new HC most times brings in a whole new philosophy and system, one that may not suit your talents.

Thanks, I don't see anything there that sounds unreasonable. This whole thing sounded super shady to me at the beginning.

Weber isn't the only one. Here's Lampkin about the Texas coaching change...

A position coach, especially at a school that's winning, won't be there long. This is pretty common knowledge.

Do people really expect position coaches not to move on or look for advancement? The timing may have been funny but would it have been any better for Weber if they had waited a week to make the announcement? Or a month? Should every player be able to change their mind if their position coach moves on? It seems to be like there is a fair amount of turnover/advancement among assistant coaches. I wonder if there are any stats about the average time a position coach stays at one place or how many players have the same position coach all through college?
