My guess would be it's going to be up-tempo, but the passing game is going to be A LOT of quick hitters at the beginning. A lot of bubble screens (kind of like Clemson ran to death against OSU with Watson). Mix in a good amount of read option and jet sweeps and that's not asking a ton from Barrett. I don't think you'll see him dropping back and making multiple reads on 7 step drops much at the start of the season. Just my thoughts...

I don't think that until Miller got hurt that Barrett was in Ohio State's thoughts for the future or any other time. I think it was Miller this year and hope he doesn't get hurt, sign Torrence Gibson and he steps in immediately. Now everything is changed and if Miller comes back will Gibson even consider signinmg with the Bucks? The recovery time for Miller is said to be 9-12 Months which would even put him playing next season in question. I would hate to lose Gibson over a maybe. This is an opportunity for Barrett that I think he may never have gotten so let's hope the kid makes the most of it and then we don't worry what Gibson or Braxton does.believer;1646364 wrote:Decent write-up. I generally agree with Hinton's assessment. For me, it's like the "expectation" pressure is off with an assumption of a 10-2 season a good possibility as opposed to dreams of a national championship.
I hope Barrett steps in and performs above expectations. Hinton is correct that Barrett didn't just step in off the intramural fields. He was recruited by Ohio State for a reason. If he's unable to be at least an average B1G QB then I'm quite sure Urban Meyer wouldn't let him be under center.
I think the Virginia Tech game will tell us all we need to know about how this season will pan out and Navy will be a nice first game experience for this kid.
It's still Ohio State football regardless of who's at the QB position folks. The Buckeyes will still make some noise despite the loss of Miller.
Relish the fact that Ohio State has suddenly gone from playoff contenders to underdogs. Gonna be interesting to watch. Besides Barrett is the future so bring it on!

Just came across this...the ONLY team ever to place 3 players in the top 10 Heisman vote getters is OSU. In 1069 Steve Owens of OK won it but Rex Kern was 3, Jack Tatum 6 and Jim Otis 10. And then that loaded team ( 17 of 22 starters played in the NFL) lost the NC when Stanford beat them in the Rose Bowl with Jim Plunkett.

I was having a debate with a few people and they didn't agree but If somehow OSU gets to championship game the 2015 starter would have to be JT Barrett in my opinion
It'd be an odd situation where your future QB took you to the promise land and Braxton would be on the outside looking in.
What do you guys think ? How far would Barrett have to take osu before they couldn't bench him in 2015? B1g championship? Playoffs? Or do you think Braxton is starter no matter what if he chooses to come back?

If they get to the national championship game with Barrett then I dont see how he wouldnt be the starter next year. They could put Miller in the backfield with him as a RB with a good option for him to be able to pass as well.rydawg5;1646711 wrote:I was having a debate with a few people and they didn't agree but If somehow OSU gets to championship game the 2015 starter would have to be JT Barrett in my opinion

Not totally the same thing, but a few years ago Todd Boeckman had a very good year when he lead them to the NC game, only to get benched for Pryor early that next season. I still think that Tressel got him to come to OSU by promising him the starting job early in his frosh year and after that USC game where the OL was so bad and Todd wasnt mobile enough to get out of the way JT saw that as his excuse to insert TP. Why else would TP choose a team with that sort of offense instead of a place with one that suited his game? A promise to start? Was swayed that the OSU pro-style offense would get him more ready for the NFL?

Unless JT sucks ass, which is unlikely; there is zero reason he shouldn't be the starter next year.

Exactly. JT Barrett is our QB, period...at least until Gibson gets here.wildcats20;1646725 wrote:Unless JT sucks ass, which is unlikely; there is zero reason he shouldn't be the starter next year.

Funny, that's the way I feel about Brax returning. Honestly, though, I have a feeling Barrett will be our QB for the next few years... I think he's going to be a good one.Midstate01;1646740 wrote:My prediction is even if Gibson comes, he doesn't play qb at OSU.

I have Buckeye Cable System and they don't carry CBS Sports Network, which sucks...other than going to a bar that carries it, does anyone know if I can watch it online?

Watching OSU/Wisky from last season, and truth be told, I'm not so sure we're going to miss Brax as much as some people think we will...jmo, along with some wishful thinking.

In a way, yes. I'm certainly not happy that we lost him for the season, and I know he'll be missed--but IMO not on the level some people say he will be. I'm excited to see where JT will take us, since I think what we saw of Miller last year is what we would've gotten from him this year...an athlete who can make plays with his feet, is inconsistent as a passer, and as we all know, very fragile.WebFire;1647089 wrote:Kind of like when I said I was ready to be done with the Denard Robinson era?

http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2014/08/39242/ohio-state-names-2014-captains
In Urban Meyer's first press conference of the 2014 season, Ohio State's third-year coach named the captains to his team.Heuerman, Bennett and Grant were shoe-ins for the position. Braxton Miller is also a bit of surprise, considering the quarterback is out for the season.
- Braxton Miller, quarterback.
- Jeff Heuerman, tight end.
- Michael Bennett, defensive tackle.
- Doran Grant, cornerback.
- Curtis Grant, linebacker.
Curtis Grant, however, is probably the biggest surprise of all. Sometimes, it takes competition to bring out the best in people.

Vball as I've said before...I'm right with ya. No way Braxton was gonna make it thru the whole season and how much worst would it have been for him to clobber the OOC opponents and then go down in the 5th or 6th week, giving JT only a week or two to prepare for Sparty? Come November I believe the OSU offense will be kickin ass & takin names. Its OK to name Miller a Capt, give him a clipboard and mentor the youngster.

One thing you cannot discount is that you know how Miller was going to react to the 100K fans and pressure packed games.
This untested new QB......you just never know how he is going to react to the pressure.

Now, I'll start by 11 or so and prepare to drink all day long, watching whatever games come on after OSU until I pass out sitting up in a chair. And then wake up and resume watching until I wake up to find someone turned the TV off, which is my cue to find a bed.
