I would have. I am not impressed by him at all.
....considering Shanahan knows him pretty well, I would have been comfortable with his judgement. More than that, we don't give up a draft pick to move up to take Johnny Football which means we get another pick in the 1st round at 26 ...plus keep our other pick. Might have been some pretty nice players to have considering the # of holes they need to fill.

Part of Haslem's quote was: "They’ll compete. If Johnny wins the job, fine. If not, Brian will be the quarterback."

from https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/browns-owner-says-johnny-manziel-is-a-backup-quarterback-right-now-150831725.html

The open competition you seek was explicitly mentioned but it went way over your head (SHOCKER)
Hey slick..you need to reread what I posted. This is the direct quotes from YOUR link... Mmmmkay?

"We were very frank with him on Friday that that’s the expectation. ‘You’re the backup quarterback. This is a hard-working, blue-collar town. This isn’t Hollywood. We want you to come in here, work hard and work as hard as anybody on the team. He’s not the starter. Brian Hoyer is our starting quarterback. Johnny is the backup.

That is what he said...and he has no fucking business saying that type of garbage. AS I STATED ABOVE....why is undrafted,...started 2 games at q/back anointed as the starter and Manziel proclaimed to be the back up? Have you ever heard Dan Rooney , Art Rooney...or any Steeler owner say such a stupid thing like that to the media?

Haslam..you are an idiot..much like the poster I'm responding to.

He is talking about RIGHT NOW. As in, dont come to Cleveland and act like you own the place. He is currently the back-up, but at camp and pre-season will have a chance to earn the starting spot.

He's the backup right now you jackass. I fully expect him to start the season though. This is non-news. Get over it.

What did Manziel do that makes you ..or Haslem think he owns the place? His very first interview he made it clear that he needs to earn his spot. If you and the others are OK with Haslem calling him out for things he never did...well fine. Knock yourself out.

Haslem.....idiot. Period.

So manziel himself says he needs to earn his spot, yet you want him to be named the starter. Got it.

Every time you post you bring the lulz. Quit reading into every statement made so much. You're going to drive yourself even crazier. I mean, you were calling Farmer an idiot because he didn't draft Manziel at 4, when in reality, he was a GENIUS because Manziel was still available at 22. I think that would make YOU the idiot for being on Johnny's nuts so much that you would draft 18 spots earlier than needed. Take a chill pill, bro. Let the process play out. Almost everyone here expects Manziel to beat out Hoyer, and I'm sure Haslam probably does too, but he simply wants the kid to work for it. There's nothing wrong with that notion, and it should be expected from a first round draft pick, so leave the whining in your own personal fantasy world.

Yeah but the way he did it was so fucking cringeworthy and completely unnecessary. From the homeless man advice to "this isn't Hollywood" - just shut the fuck up. I've heard enough out of him for the year....go back to swindling truck drivers.

This.

Also, I am sick and tired of Justin Gilbert assuming he's going to start. What nerve. This is a blue collar town and as far as I'm concerned, Buster Skrine is our starting cornerback. The sooner Gilbert understands his place in society. the better.

I disagree. The homeless man thing is just dumb, but I agree that it ISN'T Hollywood. This is northeast Ohio. It's a blue collar town. He needs to become a part of that culture instead of expecting people to adapt to him. NOT SAYING that Johnny is expecting that (wouldn't want you guys to rage again), but the best thing a new, young QB can do is come into a situation/town and embrace everything the city is about. THAT is what Haslam is getting at. Johnny needs to be a blue collar worker, and I COMPLETELY agree.

Versus a white collar worker? Anyone at anything usually needs to work hard to succeed. What does embracing a, heh, blue collar mentality of a town even mean? Work hard? Well, yeah, no shit

at this point I'd rather him agree with me than you reply to anything I say. You rarely bring anything intelligent to the discussion and are about as casual of a sports fan one can get.

Go Jayhawks/Buckeyes/Browns/Mike Linebackers!

No, you REALLY don't want footwedge agreeing with you.

If you really think haslam listened to a homeless guy, you didn't actually listen to sal pal's report. The point wasn't that he listened to a homeless guy it was that the homeless guy knew who he was.

LOL. Just listened to John Feinstein's CBS Sports minute. He ripped the Browns brass for banning the media from this week's rookie camp. Some of the highlighted points include...

1. Are you gonna ban the media during the regular season too?
2. You're OK with Manziel's record windfall from the jersey and season tix sales, but not the fact that the media loves him. Hypocrite much?
3. If you don't like the hype, then why draft him in the first place?

You're like a 14 year old girl with this nonsensical commentary. Whether you like it or not...MOST people here agree with what I have to say. Because I can be brass with a few assholes like yourself, it's "not popular" to "agree with FW". What a petulant child you are.

So.....I am taking the browns wont be signing up to be on Hard Knocks?

I dont have an issue with what they are doing. They are there to start their football career's in the NFL, they dont need the circus. They should be focuing on winning the AFC Central.....

What Feinstein and other media whiners have forgotten is that there is no reason whatsoever to give a shit about the national reaction to Manziel or anything else related to the Cleveland Browns. To summarize for Mr. Feinstein and the rest of the butthurt national media:

1. Your presence can not help the organization.
2. Fuck you.

footwedge will literally believe anything out there if it rips the browns. He doesn't think for himself and when he does he's wrong. It's hilarious to read.

If he would think instead of just react, he'd eventually come up with the fact that while the league is national, the teams are very much local. What will pissing off Feinstein do to the team, hurt their ticket sales in Maryland? OTOH, their presence at camp can create a distraction the team doesn't need. There's no downside to this correct decision, and potential upside.
