Just an FYI...sleeper;1613938 wrote:Just an FYI.
The Super Bowl winning QB was drafted in the 3rd round. Also, over the last decade 45 QBs were drafted in the 1st round and only 22 stayed in the league for more than 3 years. That's an over 50% fail rate and that doesn't even include the trash QBs that will be out soon(Bradford, RG3, Weeden, Gabbert, Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles, Tannehil, etc.) I'll pass on this current crop; they are garbage.
Here's a list of the last say 9 year's worth of starting QBs in the Super Bowl (since SB XL) and when they were drafted.
XL-Ben Roethlisberger (1st rd), Matt Hasselbeck (6th rd)
XLI-Peyton Manning (1st rd), Rex Grossman (1st rd)
XLII-Eli Manning (1st rd), Tom Brady (6th rd)
XLIII-Ben Roethlisberger (1st rd), Kurt Warner (undrafted)
XLIV-Drew Brees (1st rd), Peyton Manning (1st rd)
XLV-Aaron Rodgers (1st rd), Ben Roethlisberger (1st rd)
XLVI-Tom Brady (6th rd), Eli Manning (1st rd)
XLVII-Joe Flacco (1st rd), Colin Kaepernick (2nd rd)
XLVIII-Peyton Manning (1st rd), Russell Wilson (3rd rd)
So, out of 18 QBs that took their team to the SB, 12 were drafted in the first round, or 66%.
The numbers don't fit your story unless they are cherry picked.
Also, how do you know such QBs that "will be out soon"? A year ago people thought Alex Smith sucked and would be out soon, then his career was just revived in KC. He looks to be there for some time now.
I laugh at your RG3 being out soon unless you are predicting a career ending injury. He will not be out of the NFL anytime soon baring injury.

I actually agree that if they like Bridgewater, take him. I think it's silly the way he's fallen down the draft boards because of a poor pro day, because they all have numerous game tapes that AREN'T scripted. I think he will be a successful NFL QB, and if that's the guy the Browns scouts/brass like, they should absolutely take him.queencitybuckeye;1613945 wrote:That the number one consensus QB from the day after the season ended has plummeted without playing a game indicates otherwise, or at least that they let themselves get distracted by nonsense. I agree, I wanted Bridgewater since last year, wanted him at 4 when the season ended.queencitybuckeye;1613945 wrote:That the number one consensus QB from the day after the season ended has plummeted without playing a game indicates otherwise, or at least that they let themselves get distracted by nonsense. Now, I was happy to see his Pro Day suck and drop him because we can get Watkins or Robinson or Mack (doubt he'll be there) at 4 and still get TBW at 26.
TBW has been the guy I wanted since last year, one of the reasons I was 'ok' with them not taking a QB early last year.
All one has to do is watch college game films and you would know that TBW is the best QB in this draft (here come's a failwedge rant in 3...2...1...)

Agreed kinda. I think TBW is the best QB of this class but I don't want him at 4 and I probably don't want him at 26 either. He's a solid 3rd rounder though.jmog;1613951 wrote:I agree, I wanted Bridgewater since last year, wanted him at 4 when the season ended.

Remember watching TBW in the last regular season game I think...was the nigth before the steelers browns game in PIttsburgh and he looked like the best thing going at that position. So much so my buddies who are browns fans brought a sign to the steelers game saying something to the affect they wanted to lose so they could draft Teddy.jmog;1613951 wrote:I agree, I wanted Bridgewater since last year, wanted him at 4 when the season ended.

His pro day killed him, but I think they said he completed 57-65 at the pro day. Which, with no defense really isnt that great. All depends on how he did in his workouts, but on tape he looks damned good.
Only issue is the competition he played against week in, and week out.

Perhaps, but that didn't seem to bother anyone before the underwear season.thavoice;1613958 wrote: Only issue is the competition he played against week in, and week out.

With that logic Peyton Manning was a solid 2nd rounder...sleeper;1613952 wrote:Agreed kinda. I think TBW is the best QB of this class but I don't want him at 4 and I probably don't want him at 26 either. He's a solid 3rd rounder though.

I dont know.....there was talk about it during his season as well. I havent heard it much lately as most were bashing his pro day.queencitybuckeye;1613959 wrote:Perhaps, but that didn't seem to bother anyone before the underwear season.
Thing is though, he dominated and that is especially what a great QB is supposed to do.

You could have drafted Peyton Manning in the 7th round and he'd still be the best QB of all time. Not sure your point.jmog;1613964 wrote:With that logic Peyton Manning was a solid 2nd rounder...

Gosh... I just want us to hit this thing FOR ONCE so we have something to be positive about each season. I really like what Farmer is doing, so I have faith... it's just so hard to wait!

The point is that saying the best QB in college football is a "solid 3rd rounder" is interesting at best. We are not talking about Terrelle Pryor or Troy Smith whose style of play doesn't translate to the NFL. TBW is a good sized pocket passer that is a smart kid. That's the prototypical NFL QB (ok, might be about 2" shorter than prototypical, but has everything else).sleeper;1613968 wrote:You could have drafted Peyton Manning in the 7th round and he'd still be the best QB of all time. With that logic are you really saying that no QB in this year's draft should be taken earlier than the 3rd round?

I think we can settle this whole thing with sleeper and the QB position by saying he does not have a problem with drafting a QB in the first round. He just believes none of these QB's are good enough and worthy of a first round pick.
Is that correct sleeper?

That's exactly what I'm saying. I'm not a football expert but I do watch a lot of college football and none of these guys scream to me 'Franchise QB'. Why draft that in the 1st round?jmog;1613972 wrote:The point is that saying the best QB in college football is a "solid 3rd rounder" is interesting at best. I think our 2011 draft was dang solid...Dr. KnOiTaLL;1613971 wrote:Gosh... I just want us to hit this thing FOR ONCE so we have something to be positive about each season. I really like what Farmer is doing, so I have faith... it's just so hard to wait!
1st-Phil Taylor (great pick)
2nd-Jabaal Sheard (good pick)
2nd-Greg Little (terrible pick)
4th-Jordan Cameron (amazing pick)
4th-Owen Marecic (bad pick)
5th-Buster Skrine (for a 5th rounder, great value pick)
5th-Jason Pinkston (for a 5th rounder, great value pick)
7th-Eric Haag (for a 7th rounder, amazing value pick)
They only missed on Little and Marecic in that draft.
2013 was pretty good so far...
1st-Bark Mingo (possible reach, will know more this season)
2nd-Josh Gordon (counts here since he was supplimental...this pick makes them look like geniuses if he doesn't hit the weed again)
3rd-Leon McFadden (good value in the 3rd, may turnout to be a starter at CB)
6th-Jamoris Slaughter (practice squad so who knows, probably a miss)
7th-Armonty Bryant (played in 12 games last year and had 2 sacks...could be good value)
7th-Garrett Gilkey (played 6 games, started 1, not bad value in 7th)
Obviously Gordon makes this one stick out and Mingo had some flashes of brilliance last year that if he continues will make this one great as well.
Obviously 2012 (in between these two) sucked donkey balls. Richardson and Weeden is all you need to know.
Of course, Swartz, Benjamin, Hughes, Winn, and Johnson have all been good picks from that drafts 2nd round on, so maybe it wasn't all that bad.

To be honest, TBW is the only one that says "franchise QB" to me and he is the only one I would want in the LATE 1st rd. If Carr drops to the middle/late 2nd and we haven't taken a QB yet I'd go after him.sleeper;1613974 wrote:That's exactly what I'm saying. Bortles is intriguing with the size/arm strength but he would have to drop to early 2nd for me which he won't so it doesn't matter.
Manziel is a guy I want nothing to do with until 3rd or later which obviously won't happen. He will be hurt just like every other small scrambling QB out there.

I don't want our first pick to be a bust so I think we should just give it away. Or maybe pick a sweet kicker. We need one of those things don't we?

Today certainly hasn't been boring... even if it is all BS. I swear though, if Goodell moves the draft back even FURTHER next year... I will rage.

Back in the day there was so much debate on him and Leaf. Some Colts personnel wanted Leaf. Think I saw an interview with the colts maybe about how Leaf really wanted to be drafted by SD and he and his agent messed around with the system and purposely skipped a meeting with the Colts so they wouldnt take him.
Who knows...if Leaf would have went to that interview and impressed, history could have changed big time!
