Shannahan seems like a has been to me.....big name but has turned into Norv Turner type.

I feel that this is an interesting development for the Browns. Aside from the fact that we had no running game and our QB play was semi-serviceable at best, our offense we somewhat surprising to me. I mean, especially considering they were playing with a bunch of scrubs that previous regime's had stuck them with. The one major thing that concerns me is the lack of development in our draft picks. It seemed like everyone else's picks were making plays at the end of the season, and Mingo, McFadden, etc. were disappointing IMO. Still, I'm very surprised to see Chud fired after one year. Don't know if I agree with it or not. Let's just hope we snatch up a guy who knows how to develop a QB...

If the right coach comes in and the browns get a QB I think they will be next years Kansas City Chiefs. THey had 5 pro bowlers this year and now just need a coach and a QB to lead them.

Mingo wasn't very polished coming out of college. I knew he would take a year to adjust and learn. I definitely look for him to be a huge impact next year when he puts on a little weight.

Yeah, it's just a tough position to be in when your high draft picks are not able to help improve the product on the field. That's exactly what happened this year. So tired of this garbage...

To me it's far more of a mixed bag than the total doomsayers like Iggy or the "all part of the plan" guys like S&L are respectively saying.

FIRING IS GOOD: The team went from 3-2 to 4-12. They choked away some in the fourth quarter after leading a good chunk of the way and generally looked disinterested down the stretch. As said above, guys who were dismal failures like Greg Little kept getting thrown out there. It's easy to imagine that Chud didn't show the "it factor" the front office felt was needed for the team to ever progress beyond mediocre (as in: even with the right talent, he'd find ways to lose key games and essentially "Dallas" their way through seasons).

FIRING IS BAD: So, a new ownership and front office takes over, decides this dude is their man and then immediately fires him after one season during which the team's most effective QB went down immediately after sparking the team to a couple wins and their top HB (who was having a disappointing season) was traded for future considerations. Using stop-gap fixes at QB and HB may not be the best situation to evaluate a person, which leads to a double-whammy of concerns that probably need to be addressed internally. First, will the sort of coach that fits the "guy who will securely hold down position for 10+ years" want to go there considering he (a) won't have control of roster and (b) is working for guys who've shown a quick trigger? Or will they use Cleveland to negotiate more money from their current (or a prospective other) employer? Second, what is this going to do as far as retaining key players? Those established pro bowler-types might not want to stick around a franchise that's been going through a never-ending cycle of change where every year has basically amounted to losing a bunch of games regardless of how good HE might be, followed by front office or coaching changes leading to a new system, more losing and more changes.

The way I look at it, things could turn out great or they could turn out to be a disaster, but things are such a mixed bag right now, especially with all the emotion supposedly coming out with player tweets (mostly alleged) that it's hard to call it a good or bad move until seeing what (if any) shockwaves it causes.

The browns have been I a disastrous state since the 2008 season. Also, I'm not really worried about the players being upset. They are professionals and will get over it. They have no choice.

He did finish 1-9. In any circles that would be cause for concern. With it being his first year and the QB issues I think that is what most people believed would give him a second season.
Hard to really guage the players. Pretty much all the time the support the fired coach. Just how it usually goes. No one really knows what went on behind the scenes. That is where the true story lies.
You point to some other teams like TB and Jax. Both started horrible, and did seem to get better and play hard down the stretch. The browns looked a bit listless yesterday. You would think against a hate rival there would be some fire, some desire, some pushing and shoving back and forth but there wasnt.

The browns went out without a whimper and that was what got him fired.
