Some guys, like Peyton Manning, can learn the NFL game while taking a physical and mental beating. There are other guys whose careers are ruined by playing them before they are ready. Players such as Rodgers, Brees, and Brady weren't hurt by sitting when they first entered the league.
I dont think you can count Brady in on this subject.
Yes, he is a great QB. One of the best of all time. But he wasnt thought of being a great, or even good, NFL QB. He was drafted in the 6th round! No one expected he would even become a starter in the league, let alone the best of all time. Also, as it relates to what I stated, at the time NE DID have a very good, established QB in Bledsoe. The browns dont have a very good, established QB right now.
Brees did pretty much his whole first season. They had an experienced QB, Flutie, who was their starter.
I already talked about Rodgers..they had a HOF QB playing for them and that is why he sat so long.
Most starting QBs are going to have their rough spots and growing pains. Why should the browns draft their future QB in the first round, and then sit him for much of the season and let another inexperienced QB, Hoyer, go through a season of ups and downs only to turn it over to another guy that next year?
Roethlisberger, whom isnt in the top teir elite but I think in the next level of top QB's sat a little bit until Maddox got hurt. Even at that he had started 31 of the previous 32 gmes for the steelers.
I think the time to sit a QB you draft as your future is when you have a QB with alot of experience in the league.
