In the girl's game tonight were definitely the underdog after losing to them by 20, but it doesn't feel that way after beating the chips. The Boys should be the favorite tonight playing at home and having beat them, but losing the last 3 games that "didn't make any difference" and being so inconsistent, I wouldn't bet the house on this game.

I believe you are thinking of the 91-92 season when we won state and our only loss was to WOO. However, we did lose in the 92-93 season and the 93-94 season. I won't mention the 94-95 season when we beat you by 40...I won't bring that up at all!CCRolly;1585686 wrote:Alberts actually installed a nasty Triangle & 2 defense that night.

Interesting to read Sly's comments in the paper today about his teams struggles on our home court.
I think of our 13 wins, we've only won 4 at home.
Mentioned the lighting...but I wonder of it's the size of the building, especially compared to the old gym. New place is a cavern compared to the old cozy gym. Basket probably looks tiny in the new place.
I couldn't agree more...let's get to WHS where we've only lost once in the tournament.

Well, Friday was a 1-1 split and I am a little shocked. Boys really did not play all that well and the girls besides on could not/did not shoot well. Credit to the defense of Smithville for the girls poor shooting.
Hoping the boys play better on the road...they will need to.

Should be an interesting matchup orrville - northwestern. The way Chippewa had been playing lately, I expected a chipps/riders matchup in this game. Huskies and chipps are totally different teams. Chippewa has quick, scoring guards but not much inside. Northwestern is young at guard and very susceptible to pressure out top. Noletti is very athletic on the wing. The freshman center for NW is the real deal. He is not a star yet, but yo can certainly see the skill set. If the kid keeps working, he will be a force in a year or two. That being said, I think orrville will turn them over quite a bit and get the win. Fun matchup regardless

The last time we played them Noletti had an off night and the Koch kid missed some open looks down in the paint. We will definately need to pressure their guards and make it hard for them to enter the ball in the post. Always tough to beat a team twice.

While speaking of the above Mansfield situation, I attended both games this past Friday, and I saw something that poses this question which may cause some Red Rider fans to get upset, however, I feel some of you should know, so I'll ask.Flash;1583902 wrote:Player that was ineligible was going to an alternative school and the grade didn't get reported right, but when coach found out it was reported. Too bad for Senior but was a classy move to fess up right away.
J. Palmer hasn't played many if any regular season basketball (or football for that matter) games this year. I was told that he has been ineligible since the start of the school year. Now, all of a sudden he's starting!? Please correct my "misinformation".

He was not ineligible at the beginning of football, but was after the 1st grading period. Maybe, (and I am guessing) he became eligible after the last grading period. I don't know when it ended....Series62;1586803 wrote:While speaking of the above Mansfield situation, I attended both games this past Friday, and I saw something that poses this question which may cause some Red Rider fans to get upset, however, I feel some of you should know, so I'll ask.

I think rrfan answered the eligibility question correctly. However, if you are asking why he is starting "all of a sudden"...I was told that Coach Slaughter wanted to bring Blake Dennis off the bench and felt it would help Palmer get into the flow of the game. Personally, I think Jachai is better coming off the bench as a spark along with Zook and Harrison.Series62;1586803 wrote:While speaking of the above Mansfield situation, I attended both games this past Friday, and I saw something that poses this question which may cause some Red Rider fans to get upset, however, I feel some of you should know, so I'll ask.

Why would the Palmer situation cause fans to get upset? A basic understanding of the facts leaves little to speculate on.
The 2nd grading period ended January 16th. His first game back was at Wooster on Jan 24th....so he's been eligible for the final 9 games of the regular season + postseason.
Jachai gives us someone who can handle the ball a little better than what we had without him. Have to be able to take care of the ball this time of year....that is what has allowed him to work his way back into a starting role....and should point out the lack of ball-handling guards that we have without him in the mix.
Wish he was more of a scoring threat...but if he can play D and take care of the ball, he's an asset.

I noticed the change also and think the total amount of playing time of each individual didn't change much. Jachai is a better ball handler and drives to the hoop better, but Blake has a better shot. I'm sure those two will get time no matter who starts.

It would cause some to get upset because you might speculate that I'm trying to be negative. Did I "speculate" on anything? No. I asked a question to obtain the correct facts which I knew some if not all of you would have.RedRider1;1586874 wrote:Why would the Palmer situation cause fans to get upset? Yes, but he'd be much more of an asset to the team and even more to himself if he would keep his academics on point! That's my wish!RedRider1;1586874 wrote:.......Wish he was more of a scoring threat...but if he can play D and take care of the ball, he's an asset.

Great game tonight from both teams. That freshman center for Northwestern is darn good and Covert played well. But hats off to the Riders for coming back from 8 down in the 4th and getting the W in OT. Great crowd tonight as well! Better get there early Friday against Norwayne because its going to be a packed house! Almost reminds me of the 95 game that had to be moved to the fieldhouse...almost.

Orrville wins a close one. Northwestern's guards were solid and Smith ( I think) scored some. Glad the game wasn't decided by the ref's. Not sure why NWN quit going inside against us. We couldn't stop their inside game. The momentum changed when they missed that Ill advised outside shot at the end. Trevor played well the second half when we picked for him. Ritchie had a good game on his birthday. Zook made some big plays on defense.

Since Wooster High School opened & began hosting tournament games:
1995 - Orrville beat Smithville, Manchester & Norwayne...won district title
1996-2009 - Orrville played district tournament games at Canton
2010 - Orrville beat Black River, Hillsdale & Triway...won district title
2011 - Orrville beat Chippewa, Tuslaw, Hillsdale & Triway...won district title
2012 - Orrville beat Chippewa, Loudonville, Hillsdale & Wellington...won district title
2013 - Orrville beat Black River and lost to Oberlin.
2014 - Orrville beat Waynedale & Northwestern...plays Norwayne for district title.
So that's 17 wins and 1 loss in district games at Wooster High School. 9-0 in games vs WCAL teams.
If you go back to the days when we played district games in Smitville (started in the late 80's)....other than the loss to Norwayne in the 94 district final, I'm not sure any other team besides Akron St. V ended our season.
Wow.

Certainly not....it does mean that historically we've been successful though.
Those games in 94 & 95 with Norwayne were wars.
I do like how we match up with Norwayne. But I'm sure they want revenge foe earlier in the season.
