That is how I thought the seeds would go at the top, and probably how they should have gone. You could have put 4 thru 8 any way you wanted and not have been wrong. Going to be a very interesting tourney. As a Dalton fan I'm just glad to not have to drive to Cleveland for once.

I like the fact that we are the #2 seed. I would blow it up and put it in the locker room so you can see the disrespect that the WCAL has for you! Riders better come with a big chip on the shoulder...

Just remember Coach Slaughter voted for Norwayne as the #1 when he could have voted for himself. It was a unanimous vote, which means Black River, Fairless, Loudonville, Orrville, Tuslaw, and Wellington all voted for Norwayne as well.rrfan;1578477 wrote:I would blow it up and put it in the locker room so you can see the disrespect that the WCAL has for you!

That is kind of reaching for motivation IMO. You had a large group of wcl coaches that voted a 7 loss team not from their conference a two seed, ahead of some fellow wcl schools with better records. That looks pretty respectful to me.

Coach Slaughter knew what was coming and he would not vote his team #1 with a bunch of WCAL schools with the buddy system. Class move by Coach Slaughter.thePITman;1578499 wrote:Just remember Coach Slaughter voted for Norwayne as the #1 when he could have voted for himself. You are right because the record is the only thing we look at...how about the fact that the Riders are undefeated against the WCAL including a whipping of your conference champion.1486wd;1578503 wrote:That is kind of reaching for motivation IMO. And losses to Coventry at home (10-7, 5-5 in a mediocre conference), Clear Fork at home (6-8, ouch!), and Tuslaw (#5 seed in same district, lost to Triway by 20, Tusky Valley by 12, and #9 seed Fairless by 9), among others. You should get credit for your good wins but not punished for some bad losses?rrfan;1578517 wrote:You are right because the record is the only thing we look at...how about the fact that the Riders are undefeated against the WCAL including a whipping of your conference champion.
In the end, Orrville is always tournament tested because of the larger schools in the OCC. If you are the best, you will win this district, as you have many times before. Only time will tell.

Good points...Also not a big secrete that the WCAL doesn't like Orrville and I don't really like them either. Makes for good games in the tourney.thePITman;1578519 wrote:And losses to Coventry at home (10-7, 5-5 in a mediocre conference), Clear Fork at home (6-8, ouch!), and Tuslaw (#5 seed in same district, lost to Triway by 20, Tusky Valley by 12, and #9 seed Fairless by 9), among others. Haha! When you're good and have a tradition of winning as Orrville does, people tend to not like you.rrfan;1578565 wrote:Good points...Also not a big secrete that the WCAL doesn't like Orrville and I don't really like them either. Makes for good games in the tourney.

I did not say records were all you look at, but you seem to be looking for a way to be offended. Orrville may well be the best team, I'll not deny that. They also have some bad losses and that has to weigh in as well. You can't look at the wins that help your case and ignore the losses. There is healthy respect all around Wayne county for the riders and that was proven in this draw. Just seems very funny to be mad about a two seed.rrfan;1578517 wrote:You are right because the record is the only thing we look at...how about the fact that the Riders are undefeated against the WCAL including a whipping of your conference champion.

Well this is the Orrville Red Riders basketball thread...so I am a homer! I am a Red Rider fan die hard and will not change. I will always think of my team as disrespected against the WCAL teams. I for the record I do disagree with your take on a healthy respect all around Wayne County for the Riders. The respect comes because they hate us not because they actually respect us...1486wd;1578586 wrote:I did not say records were all you look at, but you seem to be looking for a way to be offended. You need no further evidence of the respect for Orrville than the fact that it appears Dalton chose to enter Norwayne's side of the bracket instead of Orrville's as the #3 seed. Keep in mind that Norwayne has already beaten Dalton twice this season. I have seen most of the WCAL teams play this year. I have seen Orrville play 4-5 times. I really expect Orrville to come out of this district. On the down side, it would take an absolute miracle for anyone in this district to give VASJ a competitive game in regionals.rrfan;1578607 wrote:Well this is the Orrville Red Riders basketball thread...so I am a homer! I agree with all that...however, I need our Riders to come with a chip on the shoulder so could we stick to the disrespected theme please?187xovr;1578610 wrote:You need no further evidence of the respect for Orrville than the fact that it appears Dalton chose to enter Norwayne's side of the bracket instead of Orrville's as the #3 seed. I mean no offense here, but the hated thing is just not true. Most people I know absolutely root for anyone from the county once their team is out of it.

My perception is that they cheer for us out loud but internally are thinking if "they" (Orrville) loses WCAL fans still go home happy. Win/Win for WCAL fans.1486wd;1578633 wrote:I mean no offense here, but the hated thing is just not true. Most people I know absolutely root for anyone from the county once their team is out of it.

Orrville received the seed I thought we would. The district respected us by giving us the 2 seed. Were just as deserving to get the 1 seed? I say yes. Our body of work was more impressive than Norwayne but the WCAL should and always will pick their league champ over a 7 lose Orrville team. Pitman you like to point our "BAD" loses. The only one I agree with is our season opener vs. Coventry. Our other loses to Lexington, Clear Fork, Mansfield Senior and West Holmes (2) were not "bad" loses if you compare them to the WCAL or other teams within our district. Each of those teams would be in the top of the WCAL and PAC. Tuslaw isn't a lose I'm proud of but you will have to remember it was on the road and after our home lose to Mansfield Senior. It was evident we were spent because we were up BIG in the the first half vs. Tuslaw and still should have won the game if the official would have stayed and made the proper call at the end of the game!
Were everyone falls short of respecting Orrville is the fact we play in the OCC. We have a tough league game every time out. It makes me laugh when Pitman calls Clear Fork a bad lose. Really? Every team in this district/area would struggle with them.
The thing I noticed from the bracket.........Waynedale jumps on us and will play @ Orrville with a win? Does Riebe have something up his sleeve? IMO we didn't play very well against them at COW and Waynedale fans told me they played their best game at that point? Thoughts? Last time we played Ashland (away) the night before and came back and played an early afternoon game. This time we will have 8 days or so to prepare for Waynedale or Loudonville. First time all season we have the chance to prepare for a school or size!

I can tell you, from witnessing the draw and the coaches picking their spot on the bracket, Coach Riebe, as well as 3-4 other coaches, took their full 3 minutes to choose where on the bracket they wanted to go. Lots of painful faces made by the coaches as if to say "There's no good option." From what I could see, nobody "jumped" on anybody. Many tough decisions were made.otownexpert;1578721 wrote:The thing I noticed from the bracket.........Waynedale jumps on us and will play @ Orrville with a win? I just like the fact that we will be playing teams OUR size...finally. The only other thing I will add to what has been mentioned is that of Orrville's current 11 wins...we are 5-1 vs. D1 schools and 14 of our 18 games have been played against D1 & D2 schools. Yes, the OCC consists of larger schools, but instead of looking at "BAD" losses (Pitman) what about quality wins against schools twice our size? Of Norwayne's current 18 games played...15 are against D3 & D4 schools.
All that said....I think the seedings were very accurate and right in line with how I thought it would go!
Lets GO RED RIDERS!!!

^^ I definitely agree that "good wins" should be seriously considered. It's an important part. All I was saying is that you have to factor in "bad losses" as well, instead of ONLY looking at the good wins. That's all I was saying. But let's be real: losing to Coventry, Lexington, and Clear Fork ALL at home are not good for the case of a #1 seed no matter who you beat. We're not talking just about if Orrville is a good team. They are, for sure. We're talking the #1 seed.
Also, I'd like to point out that I'm not saying Orrville isn't the best team in the district - they very well could be. I'm just trying to help rationalize Coach Slaughter's and every other coach's vote. I don't think it's as much of a controversy (or "lack of respect") as Orrville fans would like it to be.
For what it's worth, we've played both Norwayne and Orrville, and Norwayne whipped our butts while Orrville was a battle to the end. Just sayin'.

#2 makes sense to me. Consistency is our problem. One game we look good and the next we struggle. Up by a lot at Tuslaw and one player goes out and we lose a big lead. Have Smithville on the ropes and hang on to win. This is a good district with any of 6 teams that could win if they play consistent. No outstanding teams that are a shoe in.

[QUOTE= I'm just trying to help rationalize Coach Slaughter's and every other coach's vote.
.[/QUOTE]I already covered this...Coach Slaughter knew what was coming from the band of brothers that is the WCAL. He did what he had to do and did not want to be the only one to vote Orrville.

Orrville at Northwestern tonight. I am guessing it will be a homer job with a bunch of tick tack fouls called all night against the Riders and the game comes down to the wire.
Lets go Riders!
