I work in consulting. You don't find it at all odd that in a industry like mine that only the black man couldn't get the job done? Do you really think this guy was vetted like my white colleagues? No. He was hired and kept because he was black. This happens all the time; perhaps try getting a real job and go around the room and point out who's incompetent. 9/10 its probably a minority.

How you like that industry? I interviewed for a research position in a management/financial consulting firm a few weeks back. Turned it down; money wasn't where I wanted it to be, but sounded kinda cool.

So you would have told an employee to come back to work despite calling a day off? To me it is none of the bosses fucking business why he took the day off. If he used up his leave/pto (that he earned) then he has every right to use it and not worry about any dipshit trying to call him in the office.

our copy has expectations on taking a vacation day. Sick time is reserved for employee and family.

i have expecation of at least 2 weeks notice for vacation day to plan work accordingly. Sick time is reserved for employee and family.

Yeah. I was able to bounce early today because our foster dog bit one of our dogs and he was bleeding and my wife was freaking out.

I don't mind that requirement for vacation time. However, expecting all off-days to be sick days, with no PTO days, is nonsensical if you are trying to keep employees happy (and avoiding turnover).

Interesting. My two big dogs got into a fight last night, and I had to take my wife to the hospital because she tried to get in the way and was bitten, and we wanted to get it cleaned and checked for infection.

As such, she took the day off today, and I didn't work, either.

Mine is not well-liked and definitely has her flaws....but she does mean well and cannot help herself from the things that she does. She asks me for a lot of assistance and I feel that I am one of the few she thinks really well of....my teacher friends have me go to her about stuff because they feel that she is far more likely to give me the answer that they want. I respect her and appreciate her effort, but she's tough to have as a leader.

I would just move on with the day assuming they won't be back and if they show back up, fine.
Real simple....if something was very necessary and you were the one that was the go to person on it.....I send you a text (but really only emergency)......at some point send another text maybe asking if she's doing ok....keep us updated and let us know if you need anything.

Yeah....my boss might be best at this aspect. If you need to go...no questions asked. I do appreciate that.

My wife worked for a pretty high profile attorney and everyone in the office was one of his kids or people he had taken in.....shitty job and his daughter was the worst. When her Dad passed away she was nervous about how it would be handled as she couldn't afford to miss all week but more she was worried about not keeping up with her work. She went in to talk to him about her options and he insisted she not worry about anything and everything will be taken care of.....

She missed 2 days while on death bed and 3 days when he passed (all consecutive/one week)........she was texted and called for info that several others knew the answer to and then to top it off he didn't pay her for any of the time. I'm very happy she now has a much better job with common sense people as her bosses and cohorts.

anyone ever had perfect attendance for a year?....i only work 190 days and i think the closest i came was missing 2 days my first year, but there are a lot of teachers i know that have like perfect attendance for like 6 years or more..i know its not that hard when you work only "half" the year but just with life, and kids and unforseen things that can come up i am always impressed.

At the job I had from Feb 2008 to Nov 2009, I never missed a work day and even worked some weekends.

By the end, though, I was pretty burned out.

I have twice.....my kids be sick and crazy happenings to family members have been the majority of my uses. I have 161 sick days as of today's pay stub

I've never taken a sick day in my almost 2 years at my company. I am required to take a certain amount of vacation time, but outside of that, just a couple friday's off here and there.

That's what pissed me off more about this..I'm never off. So when I DO need a day off, you know I'm not sitting at fucking Six Flags.

My boss now is okay, he just literally gets anything you do wrong down in writing. If you did something wrong on an audit, had a damaged package come back, show up more than 5 minutes late or anything he just gets the union steward and tells you to not do it anymore. It's a little annoying, but he's much better than my old one who literally went out of his way to screw me over on occasion. Now that was dirty

I like this thread.

I'm already a really laid back person at work, I just work my ass off, so my relationship with my boss depends entirely upon them. I have two jobs right now and they're complete opposites. The lawyer I work for is very straightforward so we don't have much of a relationship outside of just the work product I'm doing. My job in Arizona Athletics is completely different because the people in the office (and in the athletic dep't in general) are awesome so I've gone out with them and had drinks and what not.

That being said, I still don't think I'd ever become close enough with a supervisor to discuss personal things that I would discuss with a great friend. I don't think I'd want our relationship to get that far. I think having fun with them is one thing, becoming close with them is another.

Ours went around trying to take pictures of anyone and everything that was wrong. He thought one guy was sleeping, so he tried to sneak up on him with his cell phone camera. The guy turned around and saw him, so he grabbed his cell phone out of his hands and threw it on the ground and stomped on it. Told him to never take his fucking picture again. Needless to say, he stopped that habit.
