I take it back, the Rangers lose 21, the Reds get what would be 33 now.

Choo relies on speed?

20 + stolen bases every year since 2009 (except for one year where his season was cut short by injury)....so yeah....speed is part of his game.

Not in the boat with Ellsbury

Like saying Sammy Sosa and Craig Biggio both relied on their power.

Choo's deal ranked the 3rd worst deal in baseball history...

LOL at the Rangers, who just can't seem to help getting screwed by Scott Boras.

Actually disagree with a few of those.

Jayson Werth, not worth the money, but will be productive the whole contract. Rodriguez and Pujols, while crazy money, were THE BEST at the time. Same with Santana. Brian Roberts and Adam Dunn are too short and low on total to be considered.

Barry Zito, Vernon Wells and Ryan Howard I can agree with. You also have to look at deals that have crippled smaller market teams.

Mike Hampton's deal with the Rockies was horrible. B.J. Upton's contract with the Braves is also terrible. Alfonso Soriano, 8 year/136M with the Cubs. Mark Teixiera?

I don't know where you are going with this. No he does not...so therefore, he is not worth that contract.

My post was to just say Choo's game does not rely on speed. I watched him all season and he had 20 SB and 11 CS....so he added 9 extra bases this year. He might be slightly above average in speed. He's never even been top 10 in his league in SB.

Choo's game if anything, relies on OB%.....but is solid in many other facets of the game. He's a good all-around ball player.

Ellsbury stole 50 and was caught 4 times....has lead the league 3x (52,70, 50)....his game way more relies on speed as his SB, OF play, triples, taking the extra base is quite reliant on his 30 year old legs.

Both are good all-around players but I like what Ellsbury can do more than what Choo can do.

Both contracts are too much.

I think we are just disagreeing on the meaning of word 'rely'.... Since he's not an overpowering player in any one category, his better than average speed makes him a better than average player. He uses that in his defense as well as his offensive productivity.. My point is that as he ages over that 7 year contract, that asset will diminish rapidly which will affect all facets of his game.....moreso than a Pujols or Miggie Cabrera kind of player.

Masahiro Tanaka is officially available. The Yankees are said to be the favorite, but at least 2 other teams will be in the mix for his services.

Tanaka is considered the falling domino that will trigger the rest of the free agent pitching signings....once he's signed you can count on the bidding to begin for the others (Santana, Jimenez etc.)

Pujols has been declining since the end of 2010 though, in 2011 his OBP dropped from .411 to .366, after years of hovering well above .400 and he has continued a linear decline since. I think that's the general thing however, Choo relies on a great OBP and it most certainly will begin to decline within the next few years, unless he can defy age the way Torii does

Eh. Speeding is speeding. 110 is fast...but if you are a wide open highway and have a car that can do that and there isnt much traffic.

To me speeding tickets are not a big deal. It is just bad luck..wrong place at the wrong time.

Me too.....and Edgar is not even close.

Sucks for Tim Raines that he played the same time as Rickey.

Also surprised Bonds and Clemens either get it or don't....everyone that votes one votes the other....both clearly cheated but it saved Clemens career.....Bonds already had 400/400 and 3 MVP's

I completely believe without steroids Bonds makes it easily....without steroids Clemens may not make it to 200 wins and falls short of 3,000 K. IMO only Sammy Sosa benefitted more from steroids than Clemens.

It would be very hypocritical to vote for one and not the other.

Is Piazza confirmed or alleged steroids?
Jack Morris belongs.
