Its just a dumb trade for the Reds. Our pitching staff is already going to be awesome next year. Why would they trade an MVP for more pitching?

Because Detroit might benefit from it. I mean, trade two established quality players for one established quality player and one prospect who may or may not ever be an actual player. I think they are fine with their "untrue" aces. Cueto, Latos, Bailey, Leake. The Reds pitching has been probably the best overall the last 3 years. I mean look at their numbers and then consider the ballpark they play in. It's almost the equivalent of the Rockies of the 90's ever having one of the top pitching staffs. It was unimaginable. Their offense and manager has been what has cost them. It's still a HUGE problem right now.

^^^especially for 7 years. Thought the same thing for Ellsbury....both of those guys rely a lot on speed in and for their games....not gonna be there at the end of their contracts.

These 7-10 year deals are a plague on MLB right now.
It is crazy to me that guys on the other side of 30 like Werth, Choo, Ellsbury are $18-20 million dollar a year guys over 7 years.
Choo hit .285 with 21 homers and 54 RBI's. Is that really a $19 million dollar a year guy?
The price inflation is just killing middle market teams.

Choo is NOT a true leadoff hitter. He was put there because the Reds had no other option.
Choo is capable of 20-25 HR's, 40+ doubles and 100 walks. He's got flaws (against lefties) but he's a perfect #2 hitter in Texas and IMO, is a far better fit there than Ellsbury in NYY, Granderson in NYM or Pence in SFG. All similar age and similar money, I'd take Choo over them all.
The big risk with all of them is...who tanks first? If I need one of those guys over the next 3 years, it's Choo EASILY. Now, in 2018 when all of them are in the 5th year of crazy long contracts, we might have a different story.

I still really like Ellsbury...he has ran into too many walls but when he's healthy and on he is pretty spectacular.

Reds do get the 21st pick in the draft this year for Choo. Definitely a chance to improve their system even more.
