Lonnie Chisenhall slugged a 2 run HR and Justin Masterson threw 4 innings of no-hit ball as the Tribe rolled to a 7-1 win.
What's the hold up in inking this guy?

^^^^....and the Tribe wins again!
The Tribe made their first roster cuts of the spring, and just to make sure no mixed messages were sent, Francisco Lindor and Tyler Naquin were among those optioned out to AAA.

Look out ...Grady's back. Sizemore makes two sensational catches and goes 3-4 at the plate in a Red Sox spring training game. Sizemore is expected to make the team and share time in CF. He is hitting .381.

My good friend works for NESN. He said Grady is the likely starter in CF, not just to share time...

^^^From what I've read, they are going to go a little slow with him...in any case, if he can avoid injury, he could be the comeback player of the year, and the off season's greatest signing.

Also Boston and their upper management are ahead of the curve when it comes to muscle tissue therapy in MLB so there was speculation that if Sizemore was going to be able to play for anyone, his best chance to stay healthy would be in Boston.

Good for Grady
http://grantland.com/features/boston-red-sox-moneyball-but-with-money-2014-preview/
“We recognize that the management of soft tissue is the critical component to a player’s health,” said Red Sox GM Ben Cherington. “As it relates to David [Ortiz], that was an issue of soft-tissue management. His Achilles had not ruptured. There was no broken bone. He was a 36-, 37-year-old who had soft-tissue management issues that were causing a lot of pain and discomfort. It wasn’t a lack of effort on his part to get better. We just had to figure out what would help him do it.”

I can't root for the Red Sox but I hope Grady can comeback strong. Such a talent to be lost to injuries.
"He is without a doubt one of the greatest players of our generation."- Sports Illustrated 2007
It has been quite the fall from that point and I am sure he won't ever get back to that point. But even if he were to just get back to an above average everyday player it would be quite the testiment to him.

A lot of people remember him all those years he was injuried. But he was so damn good before he had all those injuries. It's a shame that it pretty much ruined his careerTBone14;1593142 wrote:I can't root for the Red Sox but I hope Grady can comeback strong. Such a talent to be lost to injuries.

strange though that we talk about the injuries to Grady...and he's flying around the outfield and hitting .350+....meanwhile back in Arizona, Michael Bourn might miss the opener because of problems with his newly repaired hamstring.:RpS_bored:

Carlos Carrasco...(the last 'baseball' in the Cliff Lee for a bucket of baseballs trade with the Phillies) probably pitched himself out of the competition for the 5th spot in the rotation and into the bullpen last nite...getting shelled for 8 runs in 2 innings. Carrasco is out of options, so it is a virtual lock for him to 'make the team'. Josh Tomlin and Aaron Harang are the other competitors, and have been pitching very well. Tomlin has 3 options left...Harang has a minor league contract.

....and they wonder why they can't get people in the seats. How does anyone get excited about this team? plenty of activity on Browns' threads and they haven't sniffed .500 for a decade.
This just takes the excitement out of the start of the new season. SMH.

The Dolan's are in a time warp.
They are 20 years behind where the market is right now price wise.
I am tired of other small market teams being able to keep some of their players (Cincy) and we have to lose every freaking one because the Dolan's can't afford the team.
Given what pitching costs today Masterson for say 4/68 is a fair deal considering you get his prime years. I get the impression he isn't looking to a 7 year deal or anything crazy like that.
The Dolan's screwed the Dolans on this one because they let the Reds set the market with that Bailey deal.
If you're going to be a cheap ass owner you need to get guys signed early. Letting them get to their walk years in their prime is a recipe for losing all of them.
If Masterson gets off to a hot start they might as well trade him because his price will shoot up that much more with free agency within reach.
Time to send Baghdad Bob Dibiasio out to tell us that there is nothing to see here, and everything is fine.

It'll look good on Bob's resume and qualify him for Jay Carney's position should he ever want to apply.
The Dolans are pretty much getting panned in the media....and one could hear the irritation in Tito's voice as he spoke about it. Even Antonetti seemed uncomfortable running out the company line. I get the feeling that this came about because Dolan would not expand the budget enough to get the deal done.
Pure speculation on my part, but I would bet Tito had a lot to do with Masterson's hometown discount....not demanding Homer Bailey money...and probably stuck his neck out a bit to get Masty to come down in years. From a baseball perspective, Antonetti is going to want Masterson as he is the best pitcher on the staff, and you can't compete in post season without an ace....and it's not like this is a $100 million /6+year deal. This has ownership written all over it.

I am positive Tito had alot to do with it. Masterson, in the prime of his career, would not be offering to take a 3 year deal if Manny Acta were still the manager.HitsRus;1594997 wrote:It'll look good on Bob's resume and qualify him for Jay Carney's position should he ever want to apply.

When you see the deals pitchers are signing, the fact he is willing to do a short deal at his age frankly is amazing to me. In a normal situation he would be looking to cash out for his prime years, and instead he is throwing the organization a relative bone.
Tito is probably pissed because he knows this is going to be a distraction this year now and hover over the team all year. If Masterson pitches like an ace, then he becomes impossible to sign and talk of moving him at the deadline has to come up rather than losing him for nothing.
This one is going to be really hard for the Dolan's to spin as anything but cheapness. When the team's best pitcher offers to take a deal that is literally half of what his best comp (Bailey) is set to earn, you have a real problem when that is deemed far too expensive still.
The Dolan's want him to take a deal like Matt Garza signed, but Masterson is a better pitcher. $11-12 million doesn't buy you much as far as starting pitching quality anymore, and the Dolan's just refuse to realize that.
I just hate that the situation is inevitably going to throw a wet blanket on this season that should be building towards a playoff push.
All the while the Dolan's will be throwing a pity party for themselves that fans aren't coming to the ballpark not realizing that shit like this makes people not want to give them their money.

Aaron Harang was let go today...as the competition for the final rotation spot is down to 3.....Carlos Carrasco, Josh Tomlin, and Trevor Bauer.
Harang can opt for free agency immediately or take a minor league assignment with the Tribe and get a $100,000 retention bonus to be kept in the minors till June1., where he again can opt out.

Axford had a good inning today.
He is looking like he might have a good bounce back season, only to hit free agency again with a rehabilitated image.
The thing I hate most about these 1 year flyers is that it makes the window non-existent. If the guys have a good year they're gone, and there is no chance to build cohesion as they are usually veteran guys looking to cash in.
It would be nice to feel like we had a few year open window to let the group develop as opposed to knowing every year we are losing major pieces that won't be retained or replaced. It is really hard to win like that.
