I think we all agree that the Tribe is close.
What do you guys want to see done to take them to the next level?

Personally, I think Perez is done and Asdrubal will be shipped out.
I expect Allen and Lindor to replace them respectively.
I would like to resign Ubaldo, but to a friendly contract. I just have this terrible feeling we will sign him long-term/for a lot of money and he will suck again lol. But Id rather that then let him walk. Kazmir, I am fine either way. He is great depth, but honestly, probably our #5/#6 with Z-Mac if Ubaldo is resigned. If they resign him, great. If not, sign another SP for depth.
As for position players to go after? I honestly havent looked at the FA market much. The Carlos Beltran thing is a very interesting thought. Ideally, we need a RF/3B/1B with a lot of pop. Stubbs was very good for us in RF, but he would be better off the bench. I dont know what they are going to do with Chisenhall. My guess is roll with him. 1B/DH we are kind of set, as I expect Swisher to really bounce back. But, I dont want that to keep them from going after a 1B with real power. Swisher can play elsewhere if need be and depth is a great thing. Aviles I think has another year to go.

All the talking heads seem to think that Lindor is still a little ways away. So, if that is true...they need to get a stop gab or just go with Aviles.

I thought he was left off the Sept. call ups cause of injury?wes_mantooth;1511952 wrote:All the talking heads seem to think that Lindor is still a little ways away. So, if that is true...they need to get a stop gab or just go with Aviles.
Either way, thats lame. I feel he will make a quick jump to the majors by mid-season then. No reason to get a full time starter. Roll with Aviles at SS.

Yeah, they were saying he had a back fracture, but will be fine. I am curious about him. He has hit at every level, so I have a feeling he will adjust quickly.

The question came up on whether you would give up Lindor and whatever else for Stanton from the Marlins?

I expect another sweep. Pitching sucks and our bats have gone silent.
Nope. Keep the home grown studs.wes_mantooth;1511959 wrote:The question came up on whether you would give up Lindor and whatever else for Stanton from the Marlins?

I wouldnt hate that move.wes_mantooth;1511959 wrote:The question came up on whether you would give up Lindor and whatever else for Stanton from the Marlins?
Stanton is only 23, and in a very bad year for him (where he was the ONLY weapon) he hit 25+ HRs this year I think. I think we would have him under contract until 2017, and he seems like the kind of guy the Tribe could lock up long term with years remaining on his rookie deal.
That said, if they dont make a trade like that, I wont sweat it. I think Lindor translates well and wont bust like a few of our recent guys.
Put it this way, no one can be pissed about a deal like that because we have been clamoring for a RH power hitter for years. Well, a guy who can hit 40 in the right line-up (ie, not the fucking Marlins) would kinnnnnnd of fit the bill.

Is that even an actual option? I know the Pirates wanted Stanton this year and have a ton of minor league talent to trade, but it seemed that Miami had no intent of getting rid of him because he's cheap, under long-term control and they feel the team, with its young pitching, has the ability to compete while he's still there.wes_mantooth;1511959 wrote:The question came up on whether you would give up Lindor and whatever else for Stanton from the Marlins?

Okay, had me interested because that would be Jeff Loria at his finest, immediately reversing his stance on who can be dumped off for prospects.wes_mantooth;1511966 wrote:eh, i would just say it is something to talk about...doubt it had any legs.
Like he does most years.

If Lindor truely has/had a back fracture, I would not be opposed to dealing him while his value is at a peak... especially if you can get another young SS in return. Backs can be pretty tricky things. If Lindor doesn't come back from that quickly and completely, he'll lose value really fast. I've no problem with Druby returning, could have just been an off year for him. That said, I'm tired of watching him get too anxious and hit into DPs when the bases are loaded (like last nite).

Lindor wouldn't be called up until mid-season at least, and frankly based on the way many of the media types were talking it doesn't seem he is in the Tribe's plans for the big league club next year.
Part of it is the service time issue. Once he gets the call-up it starts the clock on his service time toward free-agency. If they think he is going to be a long term stud, they are going to keep him down as long as possible to keep the clock from starting to run so they can maximize his most prime years on team friendly contract terms.
This is a game most teams play, and I am sure it is going to factor into when they see him becoming a big league regular.

I think we do need to add something to put us over the hump but the biggest thing for this team will be guys we have having bounce back years (Cabrera if he isn't dealt, Swisher) and our youngsters (Kipnis, Brantley, Gomes, Chisenhall) continuing to develop. I'm not sold on Lonnie at all but I don't know what other options might be out there at 3rd base.
Rotation could potentially be solid-
Masterson
Ubaldo*
Salazar
Kluber
McAllister
Kaz*
That would be a solid 6. I think someone will overpay for Kazmir or Ublado and we will miss out on one of them.
*Pending contract issues.
Tomlin was pretty good in 2011 before being injured most of 2012 and then getting Tommy John and missing all last year. Some of these Tommy John guys have been coming back stronger than ever so he is a potential wild card to me.
And then there is Bauer as well and who knows with him.

The Dolan's are going to have to be ready to add payroll.
Ubaldo is going to get a raise, and the team is going to have to find a way to get some kind of power bat for the center of the line-up. It is too bad Reynolds took a dump after that awesome April, because this line-up looked alot more dangerous with a legit bopper in the middle of the order.
I am not sure who is out there in a reasonable price range, but around the edges there is still some help needed.

^^^With Bauer and Tomlin as possible #5 starters, I don't think we'll go after both Ubaldo and Kazmir. Kaz is a free agent...Ubaldo and the Tribe have a mutual optiion for $8mill. Both have expressed a desire to stay, but as you know...money talks.

He pitched well enough down the stretch I see no scenario in which he picks up that option as I think he could get some team to give him a pretty good multi-year deal.HitsRus;1512099 wrote:^^^With Bauer and Tomlin as possible #5 starters, I don't think we'll go after both Ubaldo and Kazmir. I agree that both Kazmir and Ubaldo won't be back, but 1 of the 2 is likely.
The key is whether they feel comfortable enough that Ubaldo has worked it out that hey are willing to extend him likely 3-4 years at probably $10-12 million a year realistically. Amazingly that is about the going rate on the open market for a guy like him after the season he had.
I wonder also if they approach Masterson about an extension this off-season. If they intend to try and keep him long term, it would probably behoove them to try and get an extension signed now instead of letting him hit the market next year as he could command a healthy pay day with another solid year next year.
Lots of decisions for the front office to make.

I think it is petty obvious that we need a potent bat. We certainly cannot stand pat with our current position players and expect a big improvement. But where? ....Replace Chiz? he's cheap and under control and showed signs of definite improvement the past 6 weeks. At SS?....not too many big boppin' shortstops out there. RF seems to be the most logical choice.....or deal Santana and bring in a big hitting first baseman,.

Morales is about the biggest bopping 1st base free agent to be I think. I think he hit 27 homers and had 40 doubles for the Mariners this year. Getting out of Safeco I think those home run numbers would probably increase by a few.HitsRus;1512124 wrote:I think it is petty obvious that we need a potent bat. If we deal Lindor I would be pissed.
"Regarded as the best defensive shortstop in the minor leagues, Lindor is an absolute wizard with the glove and has the potential to be an elite defensive shortstop in the major leagues. With a plus glove, soft hands, above-average range and a strong arm, his present ability at the position is rare for a player his age."
I would deal him for a stud ACE locked into a contract.Other than that, GTFO.
Ace>SS>every other position.

Former Indians outfielder Chad Curtis today was sentenced to 7-15 years in prison for inappropriately touching teen girls while was a volunteer weight-room strength trainer at a Detroit-area high school.

I would like to see Raburn play regularly next year and let the Lindor kid play ss.
Cut Perez.
Trade Asdrubal. I don't think the guy is as bad as some on here think, but he needs to be gone from here.
Keep all the rest of the pitchers.
