This is exactly why I wasn't excited about them making the one game "playoff". they will ride last season for a few years claiming they came so close and don't need to make any real changes etc.

bleacher report has ranked the Tribe's signing of closer John Axford the 3rd best deal of the season so far....and a 'steal'.

When all you go for are "value" signings, you're bound to have a few mentioned in rankings of such.

If Bleacher Report things the signing of a bullpen guy who's been so erratic over the last couple years that Chris Perez would be thinking he was looking in a mirror is the #3 best deal, that either says they have no credibility or teams have been overpaying so much that any deal given that's not obscenely favoring the player must be considered great nowadays.

this....and overpaying they have been doing, indeed!teams have been overpaying so much that any deal given that's not obscenely favoring the player must be considered great nowadays.

Really liked Hegan. He was one of the more insightful color guys on the radio. And he was a good guy as well.

^^^if I were an owner and worth a billion dollars, I can't imagine giving 13% of it to Sin Soo Choo:RpS_blink:. Now Choo might earn his $20 mill for a year or two....but in year 5, 6 or 7???? His contract will be an albatross hanging arouind the Rangers neck... who could you trade him to?....who could afford him?... who'd want to?

Agreed, but it is just way the way it is going now....give ridiculous amounts of money for an even more ridiculous amount of time. Then only get production for half of that contract...if you're lucky. Ubaldo asking for $17-20 million per year....Blue Jays interested...Yanks moving in and want to sign him whether they sign tanaka or not.

Yeah, i am all for calling Dolan a cheap POS, but man I can't say I agree with any of the big contracts I saw this off season. It is getting ridiculous. None of these guys are worth what they are getting.

No athlete is worth what they make, but that's a whole other discussion. But yes I agree, last few years the over paying has gotten stupid. What was the last major long term contract that has worked out? Antonetti is on record as saying that the Tribe splurged on Swisher and Bourne last year, because they knew the influx of TV money would drive the price up for these guys to insane amounts.

Tribe has inked RH reliever Scott Atchison to a minor league contract...he will compete for spot in the pen. Guy has decent numbers but he was on the DL twice last year and is 37 years old.

^^^^That's an interesting pick up and clearly an attempt at catching lightning in a bottle. Francouer once had a promising future, but at age 28, his numbers sank faster than the Titanic.

Biggest question for the tribe is the pitching. They got miracle years out of Ubaldo, Kazmir, and a few set up guys. Losing Joe Smith is gonna hurt.
Bourn and Swisher did OK, but did not put up numbers commeasurate with their ridiclous salaries.
I would like to be optimistic, but realistically I expect a return to form in playing sub 500 baseball.
s for the Dolans, they were not rewarded at the turnstyles last season after signing big contracts. It's true that Grady, Hafner and Fausto came off the books but still. The tribe attendence was horrendous given the excitement they brought to Cleveland last fall.
