He's from St. Louis, so I don't blame him. I am a piece of shit though.

Much better so far. Leading 5-1 through 5 1/2. Pedro essentially made Lance Lynn his bitch and, so far (knock on wood), Cole has been strong on the mound, while Matheny is having to go through relievers. Not that that really matters, with tomorrow being a day off, but after yesterday, it's nice seeing the other team have to use their pen early and often.

Being able to finish this off and go back to Pittsburgh tied 1-1 would be huge. Especially with the Cards starting Joe "Dominates the Pirates...always..." Kelly on Sunday against Liriano, which could be a pure pitching duel.

And they did win easily by a 7-1 margin. Guess that due to trying to get over a cold, I decided to take a nap with an inning or two to go and forgot to update this thread for the benefit of people who somehow use this site to gather every last bit of their current event updates.

On to Sunday. Time to Black Out the Burgh again and hope it works as well as it did Tuesday. One good thing: KEHHLLL-LLLEEEEEE rolls off the tongue just as well as KWAYYYY-TOOOOEEEEE.

Looked to me like the Pirates had a strike-em-out throw-em-out dp before the Beltran 2 RBI hit that tied it at 2, that would have ended the inning at 2-0.

Great win. Offense came through every time the team needed a lift. One win from the NLCS, if they can finish off the job at home tomorrow. While I'm stuck at work. Motherfucking work...always ruining everything. Motherfuckers...

VICTORY!

In the regular season, Wacha dominated the Pirates when he started against them (7 shutout two-hit innings) and Morton's given up almost as many runs as innings pitched in three starts against the Cards.

But this is still pretty much a must-win, as I definitely don't want it all to come down to a Wainwright-Burnett rematch in St. Louis. Not after the way the first meeting went... Hopefully the crowd can be huge this afternoon and the moment is too much for the rookie right now. It is an interesting comparison. After falling behind 1-0, Pirates got a huge lift from their excellent rookie with Cole's six strong innings. Now the Cards are trying to do the same to stay alive behind their rookie.

I do have to admit...Dejan was spot on with a tweet from last night, though. Coming into the year, who'd have thought we'd be saying something like "Morton on the mound to try pitching them to NLCS"?

Hopefully no one pitches to Beltran in any situation where they can be hurt by it today. Dude's only better than the Babe when the postseason starts; probably the #1 guy to fear in their line-up, especially since they don't have Craig for this round.

A good start. No runs were scored in the first inning by St. Louis.

I think when it comes to these big-time playoff games, the very beginning is almost the most stressful for me as a fan. Because you can just envision yourself getting buried early on and having to try to mount this huge comeback. So it's almost gratifying if your guys can make it through the first inning or so in good shape.

So, Pac-Man Dude (Wac-Ha Wac-Ha Wac-Ha, etc for infinity) has a perfect game going through 3 innings with 5Ks. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue much longer.

Top of the fifth, Cards mounted the game's first threat with runners on first and second with only one out. Fortunately, up next were the pitcher (sac the runners over a base, but two outs) and Matt Carpenter, who's been as bad at the plate in the playoffs so far as he was good for the team in the regular season (K).

Still 0-0 going into the bottom of the fifth with Wacha still pitching perfect.

Ouch...2 run homer by Holliday. With the way Wacha's pitching that might be one more than enough in this game.

Well, at least there won't be a perfect game. Wacha walked Martin to lead off the bottom of the sixth. Now they just need to get that first hit. Preferably a two-run homer to tie the game. Don't want to go back to St. Louis...

If this was against the Cubs, Marte would have hit a home run there. Sadly, he struck out against the Cards. He and Matt Carpenter are neck-and-neck in the "good players who are invisible in this series" race.

Astute observation by the TV announcers on the slide being too early on the attempted steal.

You don't think he was given a sign to try that to get the tying run into scoring position? Apparently the manager assessed the risk and decided trying to steal gave them the best chance to tie the game in the 8th.

Damn...

Back to St. Louis with the hope that AJ is A LOT better Wednesday than he was in game 1...

And that Wainwright turns human for one day.

Maybe. But I was stuck in the office, "watching" on Yahoo GameChannel. So all I know is that he was on first and got caught stealing. I'd criticize many things about it, like trying to steal on Yadi and so on. I think, to me, it was probably too much adrenaline all around after breaking the no-hitter with a homer, to where they collectively wanted to force a big inning after that and essentially DP'd (since Tabata then struck out) themselves out of the inning.

Damn I was hoping Cutch would get walked and with runners on 1st and 2nd for a Morneau gapper and let Cutch bolt around the bases and relive the KGJ Mariners series clincher in 1995.

That's would've been amazing with that crowd and situation.

Now the Cardinals will boringly win 6-2
