My daughter just can wait for the Conceal Carry Permit for Ill / Chicago. She already picked out a Sig P238 .380 ... Daughter like Dad

I can wait to start packing in Chicago also, even if it means taking an Ill CCW classes/permit and fees.

Ohio CCW is recognized in 25 states, this includes Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. While some states don't have concealed carry laws that are "substantially comparable" to those of Ohio, they have decided to "honor" our license. We don't recognize their license, but they recognize ours.
To date, the states that "honor" Ohio's license include Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Vermont.

With Ill now a CCW state and once Ohio and Ill agree to recognize each other CCW permit ... I can drive across Ind, Ill to Chicago and carry in Chicago..

Do you ever go to White Sox games? It's the only reason I can think of CCW being possibly necessary in Chicago.

I've never felt threatened in Chicago and the need to have a gun. Maybe someday I think it'll be necessary to carry one, just not yet.

I've never really felt threatened in any city I've ever been in. Doesn't mean danger can't spring up at any second. I'd rather be prepared if that were to happen.

I get it. Practically anyone can CCW and at the first notion of hostility they think they are John McClane.

As a citizen I'd rather the police handle the situation and not some dude with CCW who starts randomly shooting at the bad guy, spraying bullets....

As long as the person isn't batshit crazy or stupid, I'm ok with it. That goes for cops and citizens.

That said, I'm not a gun guy and won't be getting one because of the change in laws, despite living in Chicago.

This helps with info on obtaining a CCW but mentions nothing of instances where CCW holders went "John McClane" as you say.

You know what people without concealed permits don't understand? The extra responsibility people with them take on. You very rarely hear stories of a concealed permit holder going vigilante and/or randomly spraying bullets. On the contrary, you hear stories on a weekly basis of police doing just that. And there are far more CCW holders than police. But if you've never taken the class, or actually read up on the requirements, I could see how you could assume you'd just have a bunch of armed nut jobs running around aimlessly. Also, what makes you trust the cop to shoot more than a citizen? Most cops have never even had to draw their weapon, and they also aren't incredibly well trained. They pop rounds off at the practice range. Just like a citizen. I know MANY people who are far more accurate and well trained shooters than cops. In fact, I shoot with a cop on a regular basis. I'd smoke his best day on my worst day. We're not talking about US Air Marshals here, your average cop didn't have to pass much of a shooting test outside of being able to demonstrate proper safety, operation and ability to hit a 6" target from about 30 feet. I know 10 year olds who can do that consistently.

I carry daily. I once had a gun to my head, there wasn't a cop in sight. That caused me to get my permit. I've never had to pull it. I follow all the laws because if I don't, I lose my right to have my guns. I'm not a vigilante and I don't care to be. All I want is to be able to protect myself, because sitting there peeing your pants when you know you can't do anything is a pretty terrible feeling.

If it came down to me and my family and a bad guy with a gun? You bet your ass. I'm not waiting to get shot OR calling 911, and waiting for the dispatcher to send a cop to take care of the guy.

And like it's been said, CCW holders are some of the most responsible gun owners I know.

If, in the line of duty, a cop wrongfully shoots someone, there is almost never a murder case that follows. They might get fired, or put on paid administrative leave. But it's very unlikely that they'll be charged with murder or attempted murder, especially if it was during the course of an investigation or pursuit. Check out what happened to the cops in NY who shot 9 people in an attempt to catch the guy who killed his ex boss in the Empire State building. This actually happens quite frequently. If a concealed carry permit holder shoots someone, often they'll have to prove in court that they acted in self defense. They stand to be stripped of their 2nd Amendment right. Not be able to own a gun, much less carry again.

So, to those who say this won't help the problem in Chicago, I have a question. Like our wonderful elected officials from the left have said, gun violence isn't bad in Chicago because it's a place where law abiding citizens can't have guns--but because the surrounding states don't outlaw guns. So, the question has become a cliche, but why do those other areas not have anywhere near the level of gun violence that Chicago has?

I ask with complete understanding that the most common answer is that the question alone means I'm attempting to be racist. I've just still never heard a logical answer. Especially when countless studies have been done by countless entities in countless places in the country that have all shown crime decreasing in areas with increasing CCW permits. I guess the theory behind why is too much logic for some to handle.
