It's pretty awesome if it works - and 75% of couples in which both are both marrying for the first time will stay together. That's true whether they live together first or not, too.

As much as I detested Dr. Laura (remember her? :rolleyes: ) - she did have one good point in that it took a minimum of three years to see what the other person is truly like. (hell, half of my sisters-in-law were in their second pregnancy by that time). Too many people move in together or get married for the wrong reasons - and when you finally find out that's she's a neurotic b**** or that he's going to be the eternal frat boy for the rest of his life, you've got two car loans and a kid.

I really have no idea whether I want to get married. Some days I do and some days I don't. I have been asking my mom for years whether she would be fine with me being in a long-term relationship and having kids without ever getting married. I don't need her permission, I just value her opinion. Her major concern is how my future children would feel about it once they were old enough to understand marriage, etc.

Like most girls, I have a Pinterest board dedicated to my future wedding, but only time will tell whether said wedding actually happens. I may just need to throw a big party every once in a while to satisfy that part of me, haha.

After I got divorced I swore I'd never get married again. Now, with the relationship that I've been in for 3 or so years, I would marry her in a second and have told her so.

She's a very intelligent woman... hence we remain unmarried.

For me, it has nothing to do with religion (I am not religious), but more just what we do in our society now. Never really gave it much thought. To me, it's just the next progression for the relationship. It certainly was not a decision to take lightly. When I got married, it was for the 1st and last time.

Same boat, different scenario. Parents divorced when I was young, watched my mom get divorced a second time.

Watching everyone suffer pretty much solidified that marriage isn't for me.

I'm also not a fan of courts favoring women when it comes to divorce time. My stuff is mine.

Well I said it after my first I wouldn't do it again but I did. All depends all the person. I knew my first one was doomed but we were young and dumb and in over our heads. This is completely different now. My relationship is 100x better in the 7 years with her than the entire 7 years I was with my ex. Also we didn't incorporate any religion into our marriage, we are not religious but there are benefits to marriage.

I wonder if my perception of marriage comes from the fact that I have never been around a family divorce. My grandparents divorced in 1978 because my grandpa used to hit my grandma, but both have been remarried for over 30 years. Otherwise there are no other divorces. Because of this I see marriage as a bond that can survive just about anything day to day life throws you.

Will any of this help my marriage last? Who knows, but I sure like to hope so

I just got engaged in December, wedding planned for end of November this year. I'll be 26 and she'll be 25 by that time. We've dated for 14-15 months now, and lived together for about half of that. I've seen her bad habits (can't cook, doesn't clean, etc) and they're a pain but if those are her worst qualities, then I can manage. Plus it's motivated me to learn to cook.

Do I love her more now? No, I love her the same. The wedding was just the next step and the marriage makes all of the financial shit easier.

I was married once...hated nearly every part of it. I swore that it would happen again, but over the years, I have changed my opinion. Maybe someday there will be a broad out there that meets even half of what I am looking for....we will see
