It's gonna be interesting to see what happens with Orrville. Going independent will either end up with a brutal catholic school laden schedule or a gravy boat John Marshall, Heritage Christian type of schedule. It will be difficult to get 10 games everyone approves of and doing so will probably increase expenses like bus fuel while reducing gate intake. Leaving the OCC also probably means no Wooster game in week 10 as well.

I know it is ego damaging, but the WCAL is the best fit enrollment wise and financially (gate, travel). The down side is now you actually have to play the WCAL schools and get beat sometimes...none of it really matters though, as the WCAL doesn't need Orrville. The stable 8 team conference has a good thing already in regards to travel times, rivalries and steady gates.

The PAC is much less stable, much more spread out than the WCAL, but still a nice fit size wise. This may be the best option when one of their members decides to jump ship.

My guess is Orrville guts it out in the OCC until a better opportunity comes along. Going indy would be more expensive and cause more headaches for more people than just sitting tight in the OCC.

Good article about Tavy in the paper..like I said..he's been through a lot recently. Glad that he had a family take him in an that he's found some stability over there.

Doesn't sound like he was too keen on leaving Orrville..contrary to what some want you to believe....but glad he's doing well.

I agree. Want that young man to do well. Would love to see him in a Rider Uniform again, but more importantly he has found some stability and a family...

So according to the article we can officially blame the JM Smucker Company for displacing Dyson...thanks Smuckers!

RR1...you mentioned the Portage Trail Conference in a previous post. That would be an interesting league. Travel times would be similar to what we have with the OCC, but schools are definately more OUR size. I know the Portage Trail Conf is broken down into small/big school....I would assume that our interest would be in the small school division with Mogadore, Rootstown, etc??
If we are indeed exploring that option and plans are to get out of the OCC, then I am ALL for it! HOWEVER...I could see schools out that way voting us down simply because of our past success in football and basketball. And I highly doubt they want anything to do with our girls volleyball and track (boys/girls)...IMO.

PTC has Woodridge that dominates in track largely due to their distance events.

Mogadore in football and Windham in basketball.

I don't think we'd dominate, but we'd be in the top half most years.

And yes, it would be in the small division. Kent Roosevelt is leaving the large division for the Suburban League and the biggest small school would get promoted to the large division.

I don't know that there's been anything formal take place...but if it's serious, guessing we'll go make the formal presentation and see where it goes.

Same sort of drive, just the other direction, but better competition across all sports.

Didn't East Canton get out of the PTL? I know they're in the IVC now. As far as I know we're not talking to anyone now, but we could be I just haven't heard.

If you are scheduling fairless and triway why not schedule some wcal games? Orrville plays the wcal teams in every other sport. Why not football??

i hope someday orrville and triway make it into the wcal.......... I am sure just a pipe dream but anyone can dream right??

We used to play Kent Roosevelt. Don't we have a significant history with them, RR1?

Fairless used to have some pretty good teams, back in the 70's and 80's.

I'll just sit back in my rocking chair and think about this.

I would like to see both Orrville and Triway in the WCAL as members. It definately makes the league stronger, more competitive, and would create some new area rivals between schools that do not typically play each other in certain sports.

They are a playoff team this season for what its worth. It is interesting that we will now play 4 teams from the old AOL...Fairless, Triway, Northwest, and West Holmes.

I think thats a good starting point to form a new league. Throw in a few independents like Barberton, St. Thomas Aquinas, and CCC.

Getting back to the game this Saturday, I have a feeling that the Riders may be so focused on stopping Dyson that the Wooster aerial assault could really do some damage. Looking forward to attending this one.

Brother, you haven't been to many games this season, huh? There is no aerial assault. The only assault was on my eyes watching it. The passing game consisted of getting the ball to Blair by any means possible (which was obviously not often enough), together with about 40 two yard out patterns per game.

Wooster's offense for 90% of this season consisted of running the spread and throwing 40+ times per game for 120 yards, with a 40% completion rate. It was dreadful. The rare touchdowns came from special teams returns or Blair getting the ball in space.

So what Wooster will do Saturday night will be a repeat of the West Holmes game. They'll try to run Dyson 25+ times. Add in some trick plays too, probably. If those don't work then they'll try to get the ball to Blair. Play action could work, but that's not easy out of the spread. Normally I'd say the idea of running the ball plays right into the Riders' hands, but if Wooster ran well on West Holmes they probably will this week, too. And if they don't? I just don't see anybody with enough athleticism in the Orrville secondary to keep up with Blair. How Orrville wins this game is doubling up on Blair and selling out to stop the run, but I don't know what the defensive game plan will really be. Guess we'll find out.

Classic. You're right, I've only been to the game at Wadsworth this year, so it definitely sounds like the passing attack is non-existant for the most part. Hopefully we won't have to worry about having to go exclusively to the passing game on Saturday then.

I would assume most of that has to do with living up in Avon now?

I am just about in the same boat and I live right here in town. I haven't been to a game since first half @ Senior week 5.
It has been very frustrating watching a team start off so well and then finish the way we have. Our offense has regressed and thats not what is supposed to happen over the course of a season. Losing breeds frustration from top to bottom! Go out on a positive note Riders and BEAT WOOSTER!

O-trap...anyway you can use your authority to add an "e" the the end of the thread titled "Orrvill Football 2014"??? No way can I go 12 months looking at that!

Yep, it has a lot to do with living in Avon Lake now. But hey, the Shoremen should make the playoffs and I'll be there rooting them on. Regardless....go Woo!
