As an ex teacher in the system who has been away for a number of years it is always fun to hear what's going on in the ville!

Back to football..if you'll notice the enrollment breakdown thread, we're still projected to be D-5. State will release official assignees in another 10-14 days but everything points to a division drop.

All it means is that any conference win we get this year will be worth a lot in terms of playoff points. Not too many other d-5 schools will be playing D-2 schools....but we have to win more than a game or 2 or it won't matter.

We have a lot of work to do before we can talk playoff football again. Does anyone know if the kids are actually putting in the work this year. I heard last year what a hard working class it was, but the strength on the field showed otherwise.

Staying healthy will play a huge role with this team because we are not going to be deep at any position this year (again) and with the numbers being so low in terms of participation, losing one starter can seriously affect the outcome of this season.

RRfan...I think you and I could name the kids who are putting in the work and the ones who wont show up for anything until day 1 of practice. It is much the same as when you and I played. We knew who we could expect to see in the weightroom and at summer conditioning/workouts and who we wouldn't see. That part will never change. What needs to change is some of the kids' attitudes. At what point do you get tired of getting your @$$ kicked and embarassed on the field and decide its time to make myself better to help the team as a whole?? Like I have said before, many kids look at football as being too hard, too hot, too demanding, too physical, and too much work. I respect all of the coaches willing to teach/coach these kids because there is NO WAY that I could do it...I would blow a gasket dealing with some these attitudes/babies!

I agree with all that, but when a team does not have the horses as we did when we played the team needs to understand what it takes. There were a very very few that did not do the work when we played. However, our third string would be a stud on this team. They have to do more...I don't understand how these kids can have the bad taste out of their mouth from last year. I still taste it and I was just a fan.

If the coaches would just stop playing favorites & being biased & play everybody (regardless of talent or effort of course), we'd be 10-0.

That is what we were told last year right?

Glad I could do my part to get this thread back on topic. Will miss the banter later this fall when I move out of Woo.

I'll be honest, the PAC makes most sense for Orrville but I know those teams are afraid of that happening. The Riders really had a pretty good year in all sports BUT football and basketball. But those are the ones people remember. The problem, though, is enrollment is shrinking and the quality of athletes is diminishing. I don't see a future where you can continue playing schools twice your size. Football was winless in grades 7 thru 9 last year. You're doing the kids no favors by putting them in a no win situation as regards their conference affiliation. You'll be lucky to field a team in three years if you stay the course. Nobody likes getting their brains beat in. The future of the program needs to trump the history of the program. Help the kids out who do want to play and have some success. Same with the Wooster rivalry. It's dying. Alot of Wooster kids I know give it lip service to please the coaches and parents, but they realize Ashland and West Holmes are probably where they should be focused. If your main goal is to beat a team with half the enrollment and fewer wins in a season then you're setting the bar pretty low.

And is that Turk Burkholder going into your HOF?? What's a good Waynedale guy doing in Orrville's HOF?!

Most of this post is a pile of crap. Public schools go through talent up swings as well as pitfalls. Right now talent in the schools is low, however work ethic also sucks from the players. You don't want to get "your brains beat in" do something to get better. Wooster kids not worried about the Orrville/Wooster game anymore? Welcome to 1 win in the last 8 years...

Jaco-also why should they get to feel success just because. That is the problem with education, sports, society. Not everybody is a winner! You are the people that don't want to keep score so that little kids don't get there feelings hurt. CRAP! You have to learn how to win and how to act when you loose. These kids are learning valuable lessons everyday. It is up to them to improve and get better.

Wow hopefully anyone on the fence about playing football this year doesn't come on here-this thread is depressing!

I'd say the quantity of quality athletes is declining but the rest that I quoted I agree with.

We're proud of our history, but it shouldn't guide our decision making for the future...and our future is not in the OCC.

Wooster has 426 boys in 10-12th grades, we have 185. It's amazing we beat them in anything.

I'm gonna tell you what has changed in Orrville-a lack of enthusiasm for football. Look at the stands on a Friday night. Before you start saying it was because we were 1-9 last yer it wasn't much better in 2011. The average citizen there could care less! The youth there don idolize the players like we used to growing up. Most of them probably don't even go to the games. That's what I have seen-less than 100 people for away games? Sad really it definitely is not what it used to be-tradition? No that many people care and it shows!
