If money is needed to send her to rehab, I will contribute the first $100. I'm very serious. I truly do sympathize with this girl, but I'm not going to sit back and watch her bring down the finest institution I have ever been a part of. I'm not talking about football. I'm talking about the academics at Steubenville High School. Big Red prepared me for college. I am very grateful to that school for teaching me so well.
You idiots haven't heard the last of me.
FIRST BOLDED PART: I'd think that therapy probably is more of what she needs. You know...because of the mental trauma that's likely associated with how she got FUCKING RAPED BY FUCKING MEMBERS OF YOUR EVER-SO-FUCKING-PRECIOUS HIGH SCHOOL'S FOOTBALL TEAM! The sort of action that can definitely lead to someone having a miserable life if they're unable to mentally come to grips with what happened. You know, that part you constantly downplay with a little "those boys deserve punishment" comment before jumping back into your Perry Mason-esque "if she stayed at home and didn't drink, well...I guess she wouldn't have been raped, would she?" defense. which is the root of why virtually everyone here (and apparently a lot of people on other boards you spew this shit) is disgusted by you.
SECOND BOLDED PART: I give you credit. I've always laughed at people for getting pissed off at words on a computer screen on message boards, but this actually did it for me to the tune of me stepping away form the computer and pacing around the room for a couple minutes. I mean, bravo. I've always read about how it can be tough to get rape victims to come forward and, for me, that was always kind of tough to understand. Kind of a "well yeah, it sucked and is embarrassing and you probably don't want to relive the moment, but don't you want justice for yourself and perhaps others?" thing.
And now I have more insight. They have to deal with the physical and emotional ordeal of it all...and then have to be subjected to bullshit like this, which can be paraphrased to say, "I'm proud of my school and don't want anything to cast it in a negative light, so to hell with her!" It's just fucking sad you care more about your rose-colored memories than the reality of the present situation. Anyone who actually cared about that community/school would want to take steps to eradicate whatever culture there apparently looks at rape as an acceptable after-school activity — regardless of whether it causes a few prominent people to lose their positions because of their ignorance/apathy/acceptance of stuff like that.
That's the difference between a person who really cares about something and a person who only cares about how it is perceived. A person who cares would want to get to the bottom of things and do whatever it took to make sure nothing like this situation ever happens again. A person who only cares about perception...well, they can follow your blueprint where you talk about how the coach is really a great guy and try to pass as much blame as possible on the victim.
And by "victim", I do mean the girl. I get the impression that you're about ready to play the victim card on yourself again because of how this whole inconvenient little rape thing is making it tougher for you to crow about "the finest institution you have ever been a part of". Just wanted to make that clear.
