they finalized their 2015 schedule by adding home non-conf games against Hawaii and Western Michigan

Was Miami considered "good" when we scheduled them a few years back? Not when we played them, when we scheduled them.

Point is, to a relative extent, it's a crap shoot...it ain't Buffalo or FAMU

I'd just prefer a premiere opponent every year. There are opponents in which you know it wont be a crapshoot. Oklahoma for example who we have I believe. That way we could afford to slip up in conference and still have a chance at making the final 4 with the down big 10.

might be just me, but I think having a 4 team playoff makes having a strong SOS a little less important

Not sure what more people want. I'd love a home and home with a top tier SEC team, but we know that won't happen.

I don't have a problem with VT. I do have a problem with scheduling the worst program in the MAC and the worst program in the Mountain West. Neither of them have a win this season. Playing Buffalo and San Diego State didn't do anything to make the Buckeyes a better team, and they are much better MAC and Mountain West teams than what was added to the schedule. Scheduling one cupcake is fine, but I think too many are scheduled every year.

SDSU stepped in after Vandy backed out of the scheduled anal rape. Not much you can do there

Buffalo was just standard MAC fodder. The only head scratcher was FAMU

Actually, Buffalo is 4-2, losing to us and Baylor, and SDSU is 3-3 losing to us Oregon St. and E. Illinois, but I get your point.

Yes, we are replacing decent teams (by those conferences standards) with the worst team in each of those conferences. Even though those teams were decent by MAC and Mountain West standards, they don't have enough athletes to make OSU become a better team by playing them. The extremely watered down non-conference schedule is a only a product of the last 14 years or so. If you look at most of OSU's history it was unheard of to play more than one team from what would become non-BCS conferences. Many years they played all of their non-conference games against major conferences. This was also during a time period of a much stronger Big Ten. I hope the promised stronger schedule actually happens. You never know until shortly before those seasons since teams always make changes. It was disappointing that we already backed out of the Georgia series.

If the OOC going to drop down to 3 games, Ideally I'd want something like: cupcake ->traditionally average BCS team -> premiere team -> conference play

The problem is everyone is afraid to lose a single game and all but eliminate themselves from the NCG. 4 team playoff will help some, but even with that teams aren't going to take a chance. They'd rather go undefeated and claim their spot based on that stat, than lose one and argue SOS.

Scheduling is not easy. Any of the decent teams want a home and home or a ton of money to just come play one game. OSU can't afford to play more than one away game in their non-conference schedule, so aside from the home and home they typically have scheduled, they just have to fill in with teams that will come play one game, and those are usually the bad teams. It's more about $$ than competitiveness.

You're right Ohio State needs a minimum of 7 home games (8 is better) to support their massive athletic department which includes all the non-revenue sports. The only game OSU played this season that I have a problem with is FAMU. It's not Ohio State's fault that Cal is not any good this season and San Diego State was 10-3 last year and is showing signs of being decent again this season while Buffalo is as stated above now 4-2. When the B1G goes to a 9 game conference schedule, OSU will have to have a 3 nonconference games at home.

They scheduled FAMU for the band, but then the band went and killed a kid, so no more band
