I know. I don't get how that can be possible.

Bc, if you're part of the popular vote, fuck em.

Dems have just clinched control of the Senate.

I think part of Harry Reid wishes Willard wins just to make him miserable as they are enemies.

By winning the states with the most electoral votes. Meaning you might lose more states, in color, but won the states with the largest electoral votes.

The Republican strategists on CNN right now are despondent about Florida because they don't see where the votes are going to come from for Romney.

Dade, Broward counties are still out and they are massively Democratic. Most of the big Republican counties are all in.

Because someone like Gore can win California and New York by 10 million votes, yet only get 55 and 29 electoral votes respectively based on their populations vis-a-vis the rest of the states. Thus those large victory margins can help add up to a total win in the popular vote, but losing by tiny margins in other states can cost him the electoral vote.

If he can pick up 10 EV's elsewhere to make up for the difference, which seems like a monumental task

No. If Romney loses FL it is over. If he wins FL and loses OH I think the best he can do is tie, though that might not be the case anymore.

Yeah, the system needs to change. They should at least divvy up EV based upon the % of vote in a state instead of winner takes all. That would at least make it count when you vote somewhere in a strong party state.
