Trey picked up the Wooden Award today.

He's all but gone. And good for him. Love seeing a local kid making it big.

Also, reports that UNLV's Mike Moser will be transferring. He's an immediately eligible graduate transfer, and Washington is his destination if he goes.

DJ Cooper named MVP of the Reese's All-star game (not sure of stats).

Zeke Marshall had 7 points, 6 board, and 3 blocks in 20 min.

Not sure if the voting was finalized before last weekend's games, but Burke solidified beyond argument in my view that he is the most talented player in the country with his performance against Kansas. Those last 10 or 15 minutes were stunning.

Might Michigan look at Rodney Purvis to fill in for Burke at the lead guard spot? Not sure who the Wolverines have coming in terms of freshman point guards, but Purvis would be great in the fast-paced Beilein attack and he already has experience at the ACC level.

Damn. Missed this before posting above.

Kevin Ollie is going to have a legitimate top ten team next year.

Purvis is already going to play for Kevin Ollie.

He's not eligible right away though...

Yeah, I read that wrong. I think I mixed that up with your Mike Moser post. I thought that sounded way too good to be true.

Regardless, with Boatright and Napier returning, I think Connecticut is going to have a chance at being nasty good. Ollie is off to a great start and appears, unlike Jim Calhoun, to be a very likable guy.

Tony Snell going pro. I take it he's entering the WNBA draft, because he is nowhere near any draft board that I've seen. Although, on the wings of the NCAA Tournament run he just had, who could blame him.

The kid has one fluke performance shooting the basketball in the Mountain West tournament in which he shot 115% and he goes pro? Obviously, Steve Alford leaving probably factored into his decision, but still.

So, in light of the back-to-back NCAA title runs that came up six games short and Mike Moser now possibly transferring, does UNLV think about releasing Dave Rice? The. job. is. to. big. for. him.

The sad part, for Rebel fans, is that UNLV could actually be Top 15 good again next season, despite losing Moser and Anthony Bennett to the Draft. UNLV will have three McDonald's All-Americans on the roster next year: Khem Birch, Roscoe Smith and Jelan Kendrick, in addition to a solid caster of returnees highlighted by Bryce Jones and Katin Reinhardt. But they won't.

Should probably get a thread going over here. Was thinking about getting a transfer list going but unless Jeff Goodman does another one, I would never have a fully complete list.

I often hear the Alabama (football) and Kentucky (basketball) comparison, but saw this posted earlier today. Pretty crazy...

Nick Saban at Alabama
1st year: Back in a bowl game
2nd year: Alabama's first BCS game since 1998
3rd year: National Champions; Mark Ingram wins Alabama's first Heisman award -- drafted by New Orleans
4th year: Worst season; Finish 3rd in SEC West; Auburn wins National Championship
5th year: National Champions

John Calipari at Kentucky
1st year: Return to NCAA tournament
2nd year: Kentucky's first Final Four since 1998
3rd year: National Champions; Anthony Davis wins Kentucky's first Wooden award -- drafted by New Orleans
4th year: Worst season; NIT; Louisville wins National Championship
5th year: ???

Notre Dame and UCLA actually compare pretty well to each other, though. Both dominated their respective sports in the middle of the last century and were arguably the greatest programs in the nation in football and basketball in the 1900s and are now utterly irrelevant.

I can see the Kentucky-Alabama comparisons in terms of overall tradition and state fanaticism. There are no two other states in the country that have as impassioned -- and crazy -- a base of fans as Wildcat faithful in Kentucky and Crimson Tide faithful in Alabama.

In what? The last few years? I remember a ways back when the talk about Alabama revolved around wondering if they'd ever regain the prominence they regularly had under Bear Bryant (much like with UCLA w/John Wooden). They have now, but for a while, they were just another team with tradition, but not current results.
