Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has reached a deal with Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) on the health care reform bill. Nelson says his vote is based on a "limited conference" between the House and Senate in reconciling versions of the bill. The House will be pressured to take the Senate bill as it is written.

The manager's amendment which includes last minute fixes is being read in its entirety due to the insistence of Senate Republicans.

The long-awaited CBO estimate shows the bill will provide coverage to an additional 30 million Americans and reduce the deficit by $130 billion over the next 10 years. The bill still includes a national health insurance exchange administered by the Office of Personnel Management.

The big vote, for cloture, is currently scheduled for early Monday at approximately 1 a.m. ET with a final vote taking place at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

I agree that some of the deals are shady, but hey that is politics and crosses party lines. The R's did the same thing on tax cuts, medicare reform and defense spending.

Yeah but a new party needs a critical mass before it really is effective. Since 90% of people think the two parties are the only option, it is almost impossible to get in another party. It will happen eventually though.

Yes,we may lose Senate Seats in Nevada and Conn.,but we will more than likely pick up Ohio,Kentucky,and have a great shot at picking up New Hampshire,Missouri,and maybe have an outside shot and Florida(because of the turmoil in the Republican Primary)

Get over it....we ARE going to pass this bill,it's going to help this nation,and we will retain both houses in congress(perhaps even increase our majorities)

Most of us have read enough of this bill to know a couple things.

One: it's going to rob from Medicare so it looks like the bill isn't adding to the deficit. This is going to result in less care for seniors and worse care for seniors.

That's a fact.

You can't cut reimbursements to physicians without causing delays in service. Delays in service will mean poorer service and unnecessary deaths. It's already happening with the Medicaid system; this will just make Medicare about as poor as Medicaid now is.

Two: It's going to put federal bureaucrats who are beholding to NOBODY between patients and their doctors. There will be bureaucrats deciding whether you receive services or not, and there won't be a damn thing you can do about it.

Three: It's going to drive up the cost of insurance for millions of Americans, and instead of people who are threatened with fines signing up for coverage, they will pay the fines (or won't and dare the government to come after them), and you will STILL have a significant number of uninsured whose care will be paid the same way it's being paid for now.

So the bottom line is we're going to see less care, less quality care, more expensive coverage, and still not cover everyone like the Democrats said they were going to do.

Yep, that's quite an achievement.

It'll look GREAT when the political ads are being put together for election cycles in 2010 and 2012.
