and the true compensation laws came into effect with the passage of state laws that set up formal systems of worker compensation through the efforts of the unions. they provided systems that enpowered workers who had little chance in court previously v the powerful corporations and their lawyers.

You can't be serious...there is no way someone actually believes this and is not trolling.

Regulations I can agree with (to an extent) but union pressure is a joke.

Even in the US now, more and more companies are getting sick of the union BS.

Why do you hate unions?

Because they create Rust Belts
Because they break the backs of taxpayers
Because they cause entire industries to go bankrupt
Because they create urban desolation and despair
Because they leave irreparable carnage in their wake
Because they cause much-needed capital to flee
Because they render huge geographical regions incapable of growth
Because they cannot provide even a glimmer of hope for a better future

Why indeed. When the production of the US worker including the costs of employing here, and shipping products alng with providing services here are lower than employing other places, it makes sense to be in the U.S.. When those costs are higher there greater value in employing elswhere. If it's no longer China then Africa may make some sense.

we can see how corporations act when they are not watched by government and the unions. when we had strong unions we had a prosperous working class, as unions decline so does the welfare of the workers and the middle class.

Corporations rise from people with souls and compassion, too. And the corporation has done a lot more for America than the unions. I'm not just talking the economy, either, but in our communities and charitable organizations.

Yeah, because unions don't have a history of corruption and greed at all.

as oppposed to corporations. you know those economic entities that the unions fought to limit unsafe unworking conditions, to end 14 hour days, 6 day work weeks, to win workers compensation, to stop child labor.

Anything can happen and I'm not confident in BHO's chances but if the election were today it wouldn't be Isadore who would be melting down...

I'd like some of that action, because the way it looks now it will most likely be you who's doing the melting.

You know, we've never discussed this before. Perhaps a new thread might be in order. What would you do if Obama wins re-election? For that matter, what would I do if Romney wins? As for the latter, I'll still get my morning cup of Starbucks and continue making plans for my annual winter golf getaway. I love the banter on here, but who wins or loses really won't make much of a difference to me. I felt the same way when Reagan, Bush Sr. and W. got elected. I simply went about my business. At my age, there's not much that can surprise me.

I personally couldn't ever imagine melting down based on someone being elected President.

My liberal ex-wife did when Reagan kicked Carter's ass in 1980...seriously. She swore there was going to be a nuclear holocaust the day Reagan took office. :D

By the way my leftist OC friends, Carter was leading Reagan at this stage of the campaign in 1980 and we all know what ultimately happened.

I won't meltdown if BHO gets re-elected but I'll certainly be 100% convinced this country is nuts if he is.
