I've been listening to it today on the radio. The big take-a-ways are...

1. Paterno and Penn State first found out about Jerry Sandusky back in '98
   • They did nothing.
2. Paterno and Penn State received news AGAIN in '01
   • Penn State wanted to do something [apparently], but after meeting with Paterno, they changed their once decided course of action [and did nothing].
3. For 14 YEARS, after the first report, Paterno and Penn State ALLOWED a sexual predator to roam their campus, keep an office, be around young boys, etc.
   • I have no idea how one allows that man - Jerry Sandusky - to even set foot on that campus, let alone have a private office, after knowledge of these crimes

The statue has to come down. It's a symbol of the power he had over that program (Penn State), and now that power is forever tarnished. It has to come down.
I knew how great JoePa was... I know what he meant to not only Pennsylvania, but college football as a whole... but this is simply UNACCEPTABLE. To preach how Penn State prides itself on success and with morals, and then HIDE these horrific crimes is... well... I can only just #SMH.



I doubt this will ever come out, but I would NOT be surprised one bit if someday we end up finding out that Paterno & Sandusky had a... "thing" together. Would not surprise me in the least. Why? Because I just cannot understand for the life of me why that man (Sandusky) was allowed to remain around that campus, especially once Paterno knew about it (and now, all our beliefs about how Paterno was likely running that University, are ALL being confirmed, and even to a level that many never even suspected).

JoePa made a mistake, does that discount what good he did in 50 years before that - Matt Millen.

Matt Millen? I think it's the William Hung (or whatever that American Idol dude's name is) Syndrome. Where the most spectacularly untalented people in the world amazingly keep high-profile jobs solely because their patheticness is amusing to others.

This a sad day for Penn State, college athletics, and society in general.Joe Paterno's legacy has been destroyed. I have empathy for Penn State fans who have seen the reputation of their coaching idol and football program be forever tarnished. They trusted in Joe Paterno and he betrayed them.Whatever good Paterno,and I am sure there is a lot of good, does not balance the scales for his willful concealment of Sandusky's behavior.

I recall talking to a PSU fan once after a game. He had a hat with a cardboard cutout of joepa on it and he thought it was crazy we would revere Woody after he had punched a player. It's just sad to me when heroes go down.

Now that the facts are out, this is really a shame. Joe Pa was stupid, guilty of helping a pervert POS. It is best that he is dead because he belongs in jail. For the most part I am speechless. I'll be throwing out my PSU clothes today. All of the living accomplices should be tried on aiding and abetting.

So what happens with Penn State? Does the NCAA throw sanctions on them and will the Big Ten have punishment of their own?

Normally when schools get hit with lack of institutional control it's because a few bad seeds did something, the school missed it, and get punished because they didn't have the necessary procedures in place to catch it. This goes well beyond that. The leaders of the university worked as a unit to not only ignore it, but to also cover it up. This wasn't a case of some players getting extra money for food either. It was dozens of children being preyed upon by a sexual predator. It's almost unbelievable to even think something like this was possible.

I've seen articles posted asking for the death penalty. I've even seen people wanting them kicked out of the Big Ten. Many will disagree with that but in reality schools have been treated worse for doing something far less serious.

Where is all the JoePa defenders now? None of this comes as a surprise. Those of us that objectively looked at this situation earlier knew that there was no way Paterno or anyone else at PSU didn't know about this or actively cover it up.

As FatHobbit said, it's sad when heroes go down; but in this case, it is even more sad that a "hero" allowed children to be abused for more than a decade.

You can't punish the program for what they didn't report. This has nothing to do with football and the kids currently on the roster. The criminals will be/need to be tried and put in jail.

I still just think all the people involved who are alive should be criminally prosecuted. Not punishing the kids currently in the program. They had nothing to do with this. The football players did not benefit from any of this.

The difference here is the PSU situation falls under criminal and moral violations with no NCAA violations. Paying players, tattoos,...these are NCAA violations and it is clear that the NCAA will have a say. A coach/former coach raping children and then the top administrators and the head coach turning a blind eye, covering it up, enabling the situation for years (drag them outside and put a bullet in their heads) this is not an NCAA violation.

I think the NCAA habit of punishing everyone except for the violators is and always has been rediculous. The NCAA has no business giving a punishment because this situation goes beyond their scope of powers. Right now the entire PSU campus wishes every football player was driving around in free cars,showing off their free tattoos, a hooker in the passenger seat, and a kilo of coke in the trunk. That situation is easy NCAA violations.

The Sandusky raping children and being covered up situation...... take all the guilty coaches, grad assistants, administrators out back and put a bullet in their heads.

If Paterno was alive and my kid was part of this I would want Paterrno dead. I would not want the players punished for something that they were not part of.
