For example, they let this kid walk because he's white, and a black guy misses a day of school to take his mom to the doctor to get viagra for her F buddy, and he's denied walking at graduation. Good ol' Al will be right there with his "This is why blacks aren't all trillionaires because the white man is holding them back".
Zero tolerance may appear lazy, and sure it is, but its a way to avoid liability by hiding behind strict rules.
Zero tolerance def is a lazy way to do things, but it is a way to set out the rules in advance so everyone knows the consequences of their actions instead of what MIGHT happen if they take it on a case-by-case basis.
I still think we dont know everything about this situation. I mean, what kind of parent wouldnt be in contact with the school about this? I think this is what happened......the kid took his mother to what she needed to do at times, sometimes just skipped out of school (maybe to work, maybe because he was too tired from working the night before) and now that it comes out that he cannot walk on graduation she comes up to say that it was because he always took me to my treatments and such.
I dont buy it that he misses those days because of this. Hell..it isnt like he isnt graduating! Getting out of having to sit through that is a blessing! We had a baseball game the day of our HS graduation....we marched in......they had a special presentation to us Seniors on the team and we took off! We could kind of hear the ceremony from the baseball field where we were taking BP before we left for the game but it was nice not having to sit through it all
