1. I am not sure what Mo Bougard being a sideline reporter for 106.3 has to do with anything. He did not go to school to play football rather run track. While he is still not at that school he is taking classes. Like someone said, not everyone is cut out for college. I am sure there are some Creekers who did not make it in college and are back in Wintersville. As a matter of fact, I know for a fact of at least 3 off the top of my head because I went to college with them.

2. I think the racist feeling comes from people saying Steubenville's black athletes can not make it in college. Again college is not for everyone and shame on you for down grading a 18 year old kid. And if you really want to know about a Steubenville education, there are many of us doing very well for themselves. I just happen to be one of those black Steubenville kids you say won't make it in college. I just graduated from The University of Akron (cum laude) with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, and I am in my 3rd semester of Graduate School in Exercise Physiology and currently have a 3.9 GPA. So basically, don't talk so ignorant about things you do not know about. You can dislike Big Red as a whole, but when you people begin down grading 16-18 year old KIDS telling them they will amount to nothing, it is time for you to get a life, and step away from the keyboard.
The only one that is mentioning black athlete is you because nowhere on here did anyone make any comment about race so maybe you need to find another thread to post on or go tell it to oprah because you 2 are the only ones interested in talking about race.If you actually have the education you say you have then congrats to you for realizing that education is what makes your future and not high school sports.
Its called reading between the lines !!! Open your eyes !!!
Don't look for something thats isn't there. A statement was made that you don't agree with, doesn't give reason to pull the race card out.

Listen , people on this sie not just this thread but the entire site have been saying (basically) "Will they ever play a down of college football ?" about some of BIG REDS players and to me that is how i read it !!! They always compare athletes from past to present, on if they "made it" in college , But i've yet to read about past BIG RED players that were WHITE and didnt "make it". This may get deleted but it is the TRUTH , go back to BIG RED topics and prove me wrong !!!

Maybe it just has to do with every big red fan on here making every big red player that stepped foot on a field out to be the best player to play high school football and they are not.White or black i don't think big red has anymore players make it in college than any other school in the area. You do understand that it takes more than playing football for big red to make it in college.I will take a guess and say that everything that you have not accomplished in your life is because you are black and nobody would even give you a chance just because of your race and not because you were not qualified. You are starting to sound like Mrs.Obama!

Capone, you want to rag on Big Red's players, whether or not they'll make it in college, where they'll be at in 3 years, which ones's are or aren't on the honor roll, so what's the problem??? I'm just pointing out that every high school has kids who don't make it in college or worse. But now you don't wanna talk about that kinda stuff, huh???? What's wrong with that???? It's obviously what you wanted to talk about right???? Let's talk.

Shaq's on the honor roll let's talk about that. Many other ball players are too. No let's just mention the kids who aren't and paint a picture here....

Lets talk about kids not making it in college. Let's talk about it....You want to fire little shots and try to make SHS kids look bad. They won't make it in college, this ones not on the honor roll, blah blah. Take your shots. I'll drop bombs.

How is Steve Davis doing?
I have not tried to follow his baseball since he graduated.
One of the best high school players I have seen in the valley.

Sylvia Crawley-D1 Womens Basketball Coach
And the list could grow even larger if you add those that have gone on to play college sports at various levels.

James Barron-US Army Commander in Iraq

All of the Keenan boys are doing very well.

Todd Filtz-Maple Heights High school Head Football Coach

Russ Ranallo-University of Notre Dame kicker

Andrew Radakovich-Newcomer of the Year in his conference at YSU for football

Those are few off the top of my head. The list is a bunch longer than this, and it is great that all student/athletes from around the valley have a chance to better themselves in college, many from all schools have gone on to great things, so throwing stones is bush league.
Congrats to all the student/athletes in the valley and keep up the hard work both on and off the football field.

sonofsam wrote: We can complain back and forth all day about who is better than who, who plays a tougher schedule, who is going D1, and who's D*** is bigger, the fact of the matter is Big Red has a very talented team year in and year out. Most of the other area schools aim to have the success they do. I agree that Macon is a very good athlete, however no matter where he goes, I do not see him playing one down as a QB in college. Safety or receiver... Petteway is a very talented played also. He will likely get a scholarship to play somewhere, but it also helps to have great players around you that make the defense what it is no matter what kind of competition you play. Having the kind of coaching Big Red has with Pierro on defense along with kids who know his scheme allows players to have a spotlight. How big that spotlight is depends on the players around you. Put Petteway on Edison's team and he is their leading tackler, but how big is the spotlight? We can go on and on all day back and forth, I believe Petteway was a good pick for defensive POY, but there were a few others including Otto from Creek that made noise. Their spotlights just weren't as big as Petteway's. I am a firm believer in no matter where you play, if you bust your ass you will get the rewards. Look for Otto to step up the heat next year...

My sister played softball her freshman year at Catholic Central and then the next 3 years at Wintersville and lettered all 4 years. She could throw the ball from center field to home plate without a bounce and get it there quickly. Her onbase percentage was huge. She was a truely gifted softball player. No one came to Wintersville to look at players so her coach, Coach DiCarlo went to work. He was able to get Youngstown State to look at her and offer. She started at Y-town as a freshman. The reason I say this is because it doesn't always matter where you play... Its how you play. Small school, big school it doesn't matter. Talent will find its way to the next level.
Did wintersville "recuit" her since coach D was a good softball coach?:dodgy:
Ahhh, nope... Moved from Mingo to Wintersville and decided to attend public school, not Catholic.

If you want to know more about big red graduates, just go to their alumni center and talk to the Director. I think his name is Fred Abdalla.

Many student athletes from schools all around the valley have gone on and been productive members of our community and other communities. And there are some that have not done real well in life from those very schools as well.
And by the way just remember this my friend "he who is without sin, shall cast the first stone." John 8:7
