I gained around 50 pounds over my 4 years of college and another 30-50 the 4 years after that. Eight years after high school, I'm about 90lbs heavier than I was on my 18th birthday. I went vegetarian a few months ago and lost 25lbs in 2 months. However, my wife discovered that a lack of protein and a lot of soy beans kills the white army, so I had to quit for the sake of our family creating. Since I've stopped being vegetarian, I've gained back ~10 of the 25 that I lost. I was getting a lot of protein though. I was drinking protein shakes and eating a lot of beans/peanuts/peanut butter. I think I might go back to the vegetarian thing and just not eat the soy products/meat substitute things. The craziest thing was that I didn't miss meat. I've done different diets in the past have craved w/e I cut out. This was actually finally working, but I decided to stop doing it myself.
I agree with BR1986. When I cut out meat, I cut out a lot of processed junk and fast food(The only thing I ate was a veggie burrito bowl from Chiptole). I ate A TON of fresh fruits and veggies obviously. My biggest problem was that as soon as I stopped the diet, I was like "Oh, I can eat Taco Bell again, and wings, and greasy burgers." I'm not an "in the middle" type of person. It's either all or nothing for me with everything. I really wish I could break that habit; at least with food.
