This is a very good point. We often blame the "kids these days". But the "kids these days" didn't get that way by themselves.

Some people after events like this or people's death don't just want to say what needs to be said. I will! Also when we talk about generations, I don't recall kids shooting up schools in my days. I have been both bully and bullied and never shot anyone. I have whooped and have had my ass whooped as well!

Is rather the shooter died. Because he won't get the death penalty and likely will get out when he's 40

Yeah. It's nice that he wasn't able to take the easy way out and will now have to face the families of the victims, his own family, and the community. But he won't spend the rest of his life in jail.

What is he 17? So he gets the death penalty and it isn't executed(pun intended) until he is 40.

We, the taxpayers, just spent 17x$26,000(the last number I remember hearing for a per inmate)= $442,000 + the tremendous price of his appeals. It's bullshit. I know I'm glad he has to face the families of the people he murdered, but because of how our appeals system(even though Ohio moved appeals straight to the Ohio Supreme Court, the Feds still take a while and cost) works he is more likely to die in prison than actually get the needle. Granted, I just moved to a different topic, but how is that fair? The typical insanity bullshit will be pleaded, but I hope to God he doesn't get off.

This is the type of case where a pistol with one bullet is needed.

I think what he is saying is that it's impractical, nor the schools job, to police Facebook and Twitter accounts of all of it's students. The shooter may have posted that stuff, but it's unlikely any school admins knew about it.

Um columbine was what late 90's. I graduated in 94. Tell me how many school shootings took place - 94. Not saying there wasnt any however since columbine it has happened a ton. Early 90's is when guns really started becoming a problem then xploded in 2000's, maybe it's media coverage however I never thought of bringing a gun to school!!

I have two questions for those who think society hasn't been heading down a softer path.

1. What do you consider things like banning dodge ball at school or not keeping score at a high school sporting event?

2. How exactly is bullying worse now than any other time period in history? Is it solely because of social media? Just wondering.

If you can't say society as a whole is weaker today than it was 10-20 years ago then I'm not sure what else I can say. No one solves problems the old fashioned way anymore, they shoot. Kids don't play outside, too many kids don't play sports, the rules in sports have changed drastically, everyone sues everyone when the wind blows the way they don't want, I could go on all day!

I've never said society isnt getting softer or bullying is worse now. I dont buy either of those statements. I just get annoyed at the "kids these days" statements that the generation who raised them are making!

There have been school shootings in the U.S. as far back as the 1800's
November 2, 1853 Louisville, Kentucky A student, Matthew Ward, bought a self-cocking pistol in the morning, went to school and killed Schoolmaster Mr. Butler for excessively punishing his brother the day before. Even though he shot the Schoolmaster point blank in front of his classmates, he was acquitted.[18]

June 8, 1867 New York City At Public School No. 18, a 13 year old lad brought a pistol loaded and capped, without the knowledge of his parents or school-teachers, and shot and injured a fellow classmate.[20]

• December 22, 1868 Chattanooga, Tennessee A boy who refused to be whipped and left school, returned with his brother and a friend, the next day to seek revenge on his teacher. Not finding the teacher at the school, they continued to his house, where a gun battle rang out, leaving three dead. Only the brother survived.[21]

• July 4, 1886 Charleston, South Carolina During Sunday school, Emma Connelly shot and killed John Steedley for "circulating slanderous reports" about her, even though her brother publicly whipped him a few days earlier.[26]
