Kinda glad the Nats lost. Nats fans need some pain an suffering before they can enjoy a title. Fuck em.

I guess as a Reds fan and aside from the above-mentioned wager, I'm pulling for the Tigers.
After this past series, I can't root for the Giants. Besides, they are 2 years removed from a title.
Definitely can't root for St. Louis or New York.
By default, it's Detroit. As painful as that is to say...wow.

Cardinals have now won their last 6 elimination games.
Dusty has lost his last 6 elimination games.
I hope whoever is handing out contracts in Cincy looks at that stat and brings in a much needed new voice.

Pujols:
30 HR 105 RBI .285 AVG 10 Years/ $250 Million
Beltran:
32 HR 97 RBI .269 AVG 2 Years/ $26 Million
That is why the Cardinals are still playing playoff baseball even after losing their franchise player and a HOF manager. They make smart baseball decisions without getting overly emotional and crippling their payroll for a decade plus signing a player past his prime to a crazy deal.
That took brass to let him walk, but instead of whining about market size like we would have seen in a city like Cleveland they found a capable replacement for that production at an affordable price and moved on.
Probably the best run franchise in the league, or damn close to it if not.

While true, the Angels and Pujols kind of helped that decision. The Cards were going to pay him near that 250M...he just chose to bolt anyway.
In hindsight, looks like pure brilliance though.

How much better was the home plate NL ump tonight on balls and strikes than the Reds/SF ump yesterday?

Schedule favors Detroit as CC Sabbathia won't be able to pitch 2 games in the ALCS unless he goes on short rest.

Can't fathom how pissed their fans are by shutting down Strasburg....unprecedented move that totally bit them. Rizzo

They are faux fans, they aren't that pissed. I was on the Metro on the way home back from work after game 3. None of the fans coming back from the game seemed too upset their team was down 2-1.Ironman92;1293848 wrote:Can't fathom how pissed their fans are by shutting down Strasburg....unprecedented move that totally bit them. I do agree though, it was very dumb to shut down Strasburg. Baseball is just one of those sports where you can't count on your guys playing at the same level the following season. One year a team has over 100 wins, the following year they will miss the playoffs and barely win 80 games. You have to take advantage of your playoff years. Other than the Yanks, playoff appearances are not dime a dozen.

But, man, what a complete collapse. Watched at a bar, and place was just silent in the 9th.
What a choke job by the Nats.
But, now the Nats know how it feels, and next year, they can build on it.
Still, the Cards are just so clutch it is unreal.

Actually Nats fans were in favor of the move, and didn't get the big deal by the media.Ironman92;1293848 wrote:Can't fathom how pissed their fans are by shutting down Strasburg....unprecedented move that totally bit them. Rizzo
To them, they expect to be better next year, and had a feeling for this year, the team was good enough to go far. And, Rizzo has been right so far, so no reason to doubt him on the move. And fans are somewhat rational here, were in favor of putting health before the team. Those were the real fans, and were few and far between. The rest were bandwagon fans and didn;t really know anything.
I didn't like it, but then realized that Stras was struggling down the stretch, and really was the 3rd best option on the team anyways. No guarantee he would have had an impact.
All of that said, no way the Nats repeat this season and still have the best record next year. They may get in as a Wildcard, but this may have been their best shot.

It was the best decision for Strasburg really? No pitcher coming off tommy John has thrown over 180 innings and not have any arm issues. They are very young and will be there for years to come

The big error with Strasburg is they should have started him a month late, or had him skipping starts along the way so this didin't happen.
Having him pitch meaningless games in April instead of September was where the plan went haywire. He should have done an extended spring training type thing and had his season start May 1st instead of April 1st.
That was you would have kept the innings count intact but also been able to use him down the stretch and into the playoffs.
They were shooting for the playoffs this year, so it is not like it was a major fluke that no one could have ever seen coming and hence could never have been planned for.

Nothing's guaranteed in that division. Phillies will be back, and Atlanta is always tough too. They are acting like they're the new Yankees

86 world series appearances and 48 titles between the remaining teams, including the previous 3.
I can't pull for any of them. It was a fun 1st round, but I think I'm done watching.

Unreal. I turned it off at 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th thinking it was over as the Yankess bats haven't done jack shit all playoffs. I only turned it back on after seeing the comments on this thread.
Ibanez is quickly turning into Scott Brosius with these outrageous late game homers.

The thing that stuns me is that Ichiro (of all people) hit a home run.

That pick up down the stretch of Ichiro has been clutch for them. He was really good down the stretch this season and has been pretty good in the playoffs as well. They originally got him to platoon and play occasionally, but he has been too valuable to keep off the field.NilesPacMan;1294606 wrote:The thing that stuns me is that Ichiro (of all people) hit a home run.

True. Although the rumors about Ichiro being able to hit for far more power than he has in his career seem like they are plausible. Not that he was trying, but they've always said he can hit them out on command in BP.NilesPacMan;1294606 wrote:The thing that stuns me is that Ichiro (of all people) hit a home run.
Ibanez to win it in the 11th with a HR? How nuts would that be?
