It's simple. The easier you throw, the less stress on the arm. There's physically no way you can pitch that many innings/games throwing more than 60 MPH and not throw out your arm. Walter Johnson's fastball was clocked, I read, somewhere between 95-98 and that was his fastest, he probably averaged around 80. He wouldn't have been nicknamed the Big Train if other people threw even remotely close to that.

Old time baseball was about movement and control not speed. I have a tough time believing that current major league hitters, even the mediocre ones, wouldn't have a heyday smacking around the pitchers throwing 60 MPH. But that's evolution I guess, as pitchers improved hitters had to as well.

I cannot believe how hard Bryce Harper plays....all-out full-tilt sprint on everything hit.

I've timed him twice tonight and on a bunt pretty much right back to Hamels in which he had zero chance of making it.....home to first in 3.53

Full cut fister over the SS for a bloop hit....he turned into a double....home to 2nd 7 seconds flat.

I've never witnessed the level of intensity and hustle of this kid. He really does play like his hair is on fire. If he ever has a tight play at the plate and the catcher is around.....he'll end their career.

FWIW...Waddell and Young faced each other 2 days late after each pitching 20 innings.

Yeah like I said they couldn't have thrown hard. When I pitched in summer league/high school I didn't get much velocity, topping out at 68 MPH (so I probably threw between 58-63 most fastballs and relied on my control/offspeed) but I could pitch damn near every day. I didn't ice much, but I didn't have to because my shoulder/elbow were never that sore.

I got into a massive argument with my roommate last year about whether it should devalue what the hitters did back then, but I said that it's all relative because you can only hit whats thrown to you.

I had no idea Guillermo Mota was still pitching, but now he's not again thanks to his 100 game suspension.

And the Phillies fail to score in the 7th and 8th after getting the first 2 hitters on and the Mets hit a 3 run bomb to take the lead in the 9th.

If you are commenting on the lack of an S, with my RBI than I will just tell you I have always thought and will always consider RBI to be a singular entity. You can get 6 of them. So you have 6, RBI. It is a run batted in...you knock in multiple runs, you dont pluralize RBI, you just change the number of RBI you have.

I'm no grammar bitch. I was commenting on how he hit three home runs and a double. That should equal more than 6 rbis. He needs more rbis.
