I am just curious how you arrive at those numbers. The number Wooster quotes for this years enrollment is 1050 at the High School plus the career center.

Sheesh, Dalton has one badseason in football and they get lumped in with rittman and Chippewa? That just ain't right! I really don't see cloverleaf or canton south leaving their leagues but the others are definitely plausible. I also think Wooster jumps In for sure if this falls into place with NP Dover Northwest etc

Wooster isn't going to jump into a conference with schools as far away as NP and Dover without an enormous uproar. In the midst of closing 2 schools and shuffling 2/3 of the students to pretend to save money, they will never increase their transportation costs for football this much without the voters running them out of town.

Wooster should stick with the OCC.
Ashland is a nice rival and the Mansfield schools are an easy run west on rte 30.
Shelby(if they get in) & Lexington are pretty much 10 miles north and south of Mansfield.
Most of these schools are a good fit size wise with Wooster.

The simple fact is, the Generals probably won't find a better fit short of trying to gain admission to the Suburban League.

The only other possible big school leagues would be the Federal, and the generals can't really go back because they couldn't hang in Football the first time around. Not to mention the FL now stretches all the way to Youngstown.

I guess Wooster could try to get in that Super Conference that Medina plays in, but that also wouldn't make much sense as the drives would be long and playing the likes of Solon, Strongsville and Brunswick every year would be a replay of Woosters Federal League experience.

As for starting a new conference, good luck. Cloverleaf isn't going to leave the Suburban League, Ashland isn't going to leave the OCC and everybody else is just to small.


Orrville is Orrville, they'll go back to being independent because it works for them. I don't think it would fit Wooster quite as well.

It is about 60 miles from door to door. So over an hour with no traffic. The farthest drive we have now is 44 miles to lexington.

If you read my post earlier, it is clear that Wooster isn't starting these conversations. They are most likely sitting in to keep track what is going on. We don't even know for sure they attended the meeting on Feb 9. We only know they might have been invited according to Orrville AD.

I am sure Norwayne, Smithville, Waynedale, and Dalton all had teams in the last decade that would give Orrville a very tough game on more than one occasion. Like for example Smithville circa 1999-2006. Who cares if you kick Rittman and Chippewas ass, so does whoever wins the WCAL now...

There's no way to defend Orrville without sounding full of arrogance.....

I'll give you Norwayne because it happened...and maybe the best Smithville team over the last decade could hang...but not Waynedale or Dalton. Sorry.

Norwayne's basketball team beat Orrville in 1994....and that team was one of their best ever.

That's the point...it's those once a decade, or once a generation teams (Norwayne football 2011) that can hang with Orrville. No question about it. But not year in and year out.

Reading some of the forums from the Richland County area, this is all a done deal. I would love for Orrville to be in a league with Northwest and Manchester again. Add New Philly and Dover to that and you have the foundation for a very good, competitive league. Barberton is an independent, as is Canton Central Catholic. Add in some of those and/or Wooster and West Holmes and there you have a decent league.

Here is another forum that includes some schools that I would not have thought about joining a league in our area. Whatever happens, I just hope that Orrville is not in a league with more than 7 other members. I hate these 2-tier leagues. What is the use of being in a league with a bunch of other schools if you can't play everyone at least once every year in every sport.

In your example if Manchester leaves the PAC, does Triway follow suit?

back in the 80's the old cardinal conference had wooster playing dover and philly plus the mansfield schools along with ashland dont see them going back to this but who knows.

i didn't realize the distance was that great - I stand corrected. Looking at it now (along with the enrollment numbers), I really can't see Wooster going anywhere. I do still think orrville and WH will jet if possible if the other schools turn out to be correct - the distance for them would probably be a little better and the enrollemnts more similar. It still seems like it would be best to find an 8 team league - those just seem to work the best.

I know if this rumored new league does form, most people in the area would rather see Triway included if any team leaves the PAC. Myself, if I could choose to include only one team from the PAC, it would be Manchester. Orrville and Triway are so close size wise and geographically, that they will always play each other in most if not all sports, league or no league. I just always remember the great football games we had with Manchester in the 1980's, and would love to see that again. All of this is just one persons opinion. Can't wait to see all the rumors flying around until something "official" is announced.

I think one of the biggest questions if any of these rumors are true is which way will Wooster go. I think they are a good match size wise with Ashland and the Mansfield schools. They will have a tough choice if given one, stay and go west, or leave and go east.

The WHS lacrosse team is not travelling to Columbus this season. Budget cuts and scheduling conflicts.

The CF game is just that, 1 game. I don't see them scheduling jr high,freshman and all the girls sports with them. One off games are one thing when it comes to travel, a league affiliation is something else.

That is a good point. However, the football program should make the athletic department money or at least cover their own costs. Yes, even at Wooster this should happen. Added to that is the pay to play and I can't see how travelling to far away games actually "costs" the school money,again talking just football and boys basketball here. All the other sports struggle to break even or lose the school money, but you have to provide an opportunity for the kids to play the sports.

according to the schedule the team does go to pickerington this year for lacrosse, has that been cancled?
