Now that Eli has won his second SB, I wondered what everyone's thoughts are on who's the better of these two QB's from the class of 2004. Both have seen some similarities in their career as they've both played in arguably the toughest divisions in their respective conferences and both have benefitted from having great defenses. Here's some numbers to look at:

This is a pretty good debate.

All bias aside, I would take Ben because I prefer his style over Eli's. Eli can be careless at times which results in picks, not saying Ben doesn't do this also, but Eli has more.

What makes you say this?

I think they both have a decent shot at winning another. Ben could possibly have a better chance. NY may be going through a coaching change in the near future.

Ben, i figured Eli's numbers would be way better, due to the fact they have 2 completely different offenses they play in, but with Ben putting up similar numbers while in a primarily run heavy O almost every year, if he passed as much as the Giants, his numbers would (pun intended) RAPE Eli's

The passing thing is really interesting. It should be noted that Eli has more attempts which obviously contributes to him having more yards in touchdowns, but also in him having more interceptions.

I'll take Ben and admit there is some bias there. Both are pretty darn good though. Can't really go wrong with either one.

I am willing to bet the Steelers had a much higher ranking rushing attack and defense in their 3 SB appearances, than the Giants had in their 2 SB appearances.

Not to mention Eli isn't a rapist piece of shit.

Aging defense/not replacing key players with equivalent quality/retiring Lebeau/meddling owner trying to change the offense/etc.

If Pittsburgh WERE to win another with Ben I see it as a current New England type structure, mostly offense/limited defense. Win by shootouts.

Another reason I believe this is that Roethlisberger will be 30, I believe, by the start of the 2012 season. Now it's one thing to be a "chronological" 30 and a complete different story to be that age in "quarterback years." With the beating he takes/has taken I can see him getting repeatedly injured the next few years.

Pittsburgh was 5th in '05, 23rd in '08, 11th last year.

Giants 4th in '07 and dead last this year.

I knew NY had a poor rushing attack this year, but didn't think they would be at the bottom.

Very good question. I am a believer in being 'at the right place at the right time' in sports. But in this case....I think if the two QB's were swapped that the successes would be pretty much the same. One wildcard tho....would the NYC lifestyle been too much of a distraction for him?

Even if i was picking today, I would want BR as the QB. Nothing wrong with Eli, but I think that BR and his toughness fits the steelers profile. Not that Eli is fragile, but BR gets beat around and keeps on going.

BUt....maybe Eli and his smarts, and ability to get rid of the ball quicker, would not have resulted in what BR has had to deal with?

If you had to pick one to win one game who would you go with? I would go with Eli because he's proven to be a better quarterback on the biggest stage.

Can't go wrong with either really. They both have proven they can come from behind and win when it matters most. Eli just did it one more time.

Since they were drafted in the same year, it would be interesting to see Phillip Rivers career numbers as well.

As a steelers fan.......I have to agree. I think right now I would want eli if I had to win one game.

The one thing that kind of bugs me, but in the same sentense brings alot of excitement and success, is that the steelers offense is at its best when BR is making plays by scrambling and out of the framework of the play.
Eli makes tons of plays while in the pocket and as they are designed.

If we're factoring in defenses and rushing attacks...I think it's fair (not as measurable though) to include offensive lines in the comparisons. Ben's o-line has not been very good the last few years. I haven't watched many Giants' games the last several years but it's hard to imagine Eli's line being worse than Ben's.

I mean he was sacked 6 times in the NFC championship, 3 times last night. Both have played with pro bowlers, but Ben has played with guys like Faneca and Pouncey.

I would guess the O-lines would be pretty close to a push. Ben is the more mobile one however, so he can make up for his offensive line some of the time.

Roethlisberger's line is far from "all world" but I don't think it's as bad as many think. A lot of the time he holds onto the ball too long trying to extend plays.

He does hold onto it too long at times, but I do think the OL is pretty bad by steeler standards. Some get mad at him for it, but ya gotta take the good with the bad. If ou love the big plays he makes by extending plays then ya gott accept sacks for holing it too long.

I'd probably have Ben by a hair. Really, this year has made it a far closer competition than it has been with Eli throwing for nearly 5000 and being clutch down the stretch. Before this year, it was easily Roethlisberger, but with Eli having a stretch of two really good years in a three-year span, he's closed the gap to where you could pick either and do good.
