Long story short. Well..maybe not. STarted a thread about Englewood Tumbleweed a couple of weeks ago. Wife's dinner was boo-nasty. Showed the waitress and her reaction was "Oh, yeah, that doesnt look very good. I will let the manager know." The manager comes over 20 min later and takes a look and he says "that doesnt even look right. I am going to have to tell the kitchen that they cannot be putting out stuff that looks like that. that def looks not very appetizing".

In the meantime she cannot eat the main course of her meal, and even the side of cornbread was so hard taht you couldnt cut through it (and the manager saw that too). Never offered to recook or anything like that. Figure they would take something off the bill when it comes.

NOPE. Nothing. Zilch. The bill was over 50 bucks (without alcohol even) and they didnt do anything.

Brought it up on here and many gave their opinions on what they shoulda done. Someoone gives a link to tell tumbleweed how it went, so I did. Lady emailed later that day, and said will get a call soon from someone even higher up. Next day a guy calls and apologizes and states he will send out a gift card.

I asked the OC how much they thought. Most of you all said 25 bucks, a few 20, and I think someone said 50 (beccause I did mention to them that my bill was a little over 50.


Got the gift card yesterday and they gave me.......


$10.


Ten. Fuckin. Dollars.

What a joke! However when I got the bill there I wouldn't have paid for her meal regardless especially if they didn't even make a new order!

Hell Wendy's a few years back accidentally charged my debit card too much. They immediately refunded it, then Corp called me and refunded the total meal as well and sent me $50 in gift cards on top of that and that is a fast food place. I would call them back and tell them to shove it, I would rather just not go back to your restaurant!</SPAN>

At least they're consistent, they've botched everything.

I learned the power of social media in a similar situation last week:

I was at a conference in Wilksboro North Carolina they put us up in the Hampton Inn there in town. The hotel stay was included in the registration for the conference so nothing out of my pocket.

First morning I get up and ready to head out, no hot water. I made a flippant comment on Twitter about no hot water, nice job Hampton Inn. No more, no less. About an hour later, I get a tweet from Hampton Inn corporate asking me for my email address they wanted some more information. I found this odd as I do not follow Hampton Inn nor was I aware they followed me. So I send them my email address, later in the afternoon, I recieve an email back from them stating that they had notified the local Hampton Inn of the situation and it would be fixed as soon as possible. Then they go on to mention that they had removed the charge for that night's lodging from my bill and would be awarding me an extra 25,000 points on my Hilton/Hampton Rewards Card.

Now 25,000 points is enough for about 2-1/2 nights stay in a Hampton Inn.

I was impressed with the level of customer service I recieved from the company.

Ya know fab.....I think the 10 dollar gift card pisses me off more than when they didnt do anything at all at the restaurant. Sure...people mess up so I cann maybe accept that, but when the people who are supposed to fix it insult ya with that it makes me even more mad.


Yeah..I know what they are doing....throw 10 bucks at him, make him happy, they come back in and we still make a good profit off us.

Send the giftcard back to corporate, c/o whoever you talked to on the phone. Include a letter letting them know that you'd just rather not give them any business in the future for how they handled everything.

I have had a similar experience with social media with a traveling website. They charged me $40 to change my flight, that I literally previously made 3 hrs prior to the flight change. I raised hell on their facebook page. An hour later, the company comments on my post stating they will take care of it. The next day I recieve an email from the company stating I have been reimbursed of my $40, and they also gave me $20 credit for my next flight purchase.

That is very impressive when companies make a point in making something right even when you are not asking for it. Last summer on our way home from Florida we were gonna just sleep in the van for few hours. It was so hot and muggy in Tennessee I said the hell with it and saw a motel 6 sign and we went there. It was around midnight and they had one room left. Supposed to be N/S but smelled as if it was a former smoking lounge, and the AC did not work and it was so f=n hot in there. Opened the window and it did no good as it was a steamy June summer night with no wind and all we could hear ws the trucks from the highway. ALl we did was on the comment card put the room smelled of smoke and the AC did not work at all and we got an email with a free night stay. We didnt solicit it, or even expect it and I just put that on there about the AC because that is important for people in the summer ya know!


but anyways.....ten dollars.

You honestly should have stood up for yourself at the restaurant. If things were truly as you say then you should have not just assumed the restaurant will do the right thing. Maybe if your wife didn't already crush your confidence and manhood you would have done so. Therefore I blame this whole situation on your wife.

If you have a problem with a business, whether it is a restaurant or store, if you don't speak up for yourself they won't. Start talking about what you think would be appropriate remedies to the current problem. You don't have to be an asshole to do this. You can still be respectful, but you do have to be assertive.

Being passive aggressive on a message board won't fix anything (bad service at a restaurant or problems with the wife). Sometimes you have to stand up and be assertive.

Companies...and people for that matter, screw up all the time. We all do it.

It is how a company (resturant, retailer, hotel, etc) makes up for it that shows how good they are.

If I get a bad 'product' or have a bad 'experience' with a company, I'll go back if they make it 'right'. If they do not, then they will not get one penny of my business in the future.

If I had this experience at Tumbleweed....I would never darken their door again.

If I had that experience with Hampton Inn....I would stay there again.

I will respond to it as the latter. I agree with you 100%. I have, for the most part, been a bit passive. I guess I dont like to cause a stir or a scene. I have stood up for myself when things truly mattered the most to me. I wish I could fire back at ya but ya know....the truth hurts, and what you have said is 98% correct.

Shit like that is why I love twitter.

Also, and this isnt a big deal at all...

When I went to the bathroom I noticed a big sign that stated military get a 10% discount. That was only the second time I had used it. The other was at the Toledo Zoo for their lights display and they have me all 4 tix with the discount........wth..they have a big sign so why not. WHat is the normal protocol when they do this? It is supposed to be off the whole bill? Just my order? The smallest priced order?

They honored it, but took off 10% of the least expensive meal, my wife's. That may be the normal to do....I don tknow...and I have only used it once before so I dont know the protocol. I didnt say anything because hey....its still a buck fifty off the bill and figured they just apply it to the least expensive meal.

It was meant as advice. I wasn't trying to be harsh, more helpful. Often people are too intimidated by companies to push for what they think should actually happen.

I learned this lesson when I was in college. I was flying back to school, had about a 1 hour between the arrival time of the plane and when my bus to Hanover, NH would depart. However, the airline was slow getting the luggage out, and mine was apparently lost. While trying to figure out what the deal was with my luggage I missed the bus, which was the last one for the night. I was respectful and talked to different people with that company. I eventually got a voucher for a ride to Hanover, NH from Boston (not a cheap ride, it was at least a few hundred dollars). I just offered that they either need to find me a flight to the local airport in White River Junction or get me up there some other way.

But it works in different areas. Both the following happened within the past two years. I was able to negotiate another $3,000 from an insurance company when it came to a car that was totaled (I was side swiped into the median on 270). I recently received a new $1,800 computer from best buy. I was having repeated issues that were covered under the warranty, the warranty expired and the issue happened again. I went in and talked to the geek squad then the manager. With the right suggestions and statements they eventually agreed to replace my computer not for it's equivalent in performance but for it's equivalent in original purchase price. The computer was 3 years old at that point.

Not trying to brag, just trying to say you can usually get a lot of good service or fixes to problems if you just stand up for yourself and engage people with power (managers) in conversation about results you would like to see. Don't assume they will give you what you want, just ask for it.

Oh ya, the first comment about your wife being the source of the problem was meant to be a joke, I think that's why it could be construed as to belittle. Sometimes humor doesn't come across well in written format. But the parenthetical at the end was meant to be advice since you seem to come here a lot about problems with the W. You should talk with her just like I'm advocating talking with people of power (managers) in companies.

Many if not most of the best meals I've ever had have come from local places. However, many of the worst have as well.
