Sounds like they are holding out hope Aldo can fight, and Mendes is ready and willing to be on call for the interim title if he can't.

I don't believe it really went like this, but you have to love how Conor and his camp control the hype around him. His coach said this is how it went down.

"It was UFC president Dana White who called me and asked how we felt about Chad Mendes stepping in to fight Conor for the belt. Conor was sleeping at the time so I walked into his room and told him it could be Mendes instead. He opened one eye, said ‘They’re all the same’ and then went back to sleep. That’s as far as any negotiation went."

Machida vs Romero tonight on FS1, should be excellent.

Romero is a beast and made me good money as an easy underdog pick tonight

Lyoto doesn't look the same, he looked great against Weidman and Dolloway, but the last two fights he hasn't looked as sharp or as crisp for some reason. Not sure if it's just age catching up with him or what. Romero is a beast, the fight was basically even until that take down and those elbows, guys at this level only need a split second to end the fight, well done.

And his game is based so much around speed and timing/reactions. He looked great against Weidman and CB Dolloway I thought, but really bad against Rockhold and now gets finished by Romero even though the fight was pretty even until that part. I don't think the quick turnaround did him any favors either. Guys get old quick in this sport, and when you're fighting nothing but monsters fight in fight out it's gonna take a toll on you. He should take about 6 months off and come back in december against either Vitor or Bisping or someone like that.

Agreed. He didn't look great to start the Rockhold fight, and then got brutalized during it. Not sure a quick turnaround was the best idea. He's 6-7 since the Shogun title fight, but he only fights top level guys. Romero is awesome to watch, I hope he stays active for whatever few years he has left competing.

Yeah I know he wanted to get that bad taste of that Rockhold loss out of his mouth, but a quick turnaround against someone like Romero is a mistake. Romero might be the best athlete in mma, he's a freak. Lyoto has had some ups and downs but has been pretty consistent in his performances since losing the belt, I thought he beat Davis and Rampage. Dude has fought the absolute best of the best in two weight classes now, seems like he never gets a step down in competition.

Because when he does get a step down, ie Ryan Bader, he crushes them pretty fast.

Yeah he's always going to beat those guys that are ranked 6-10 for the most part, tough spot for him. Maybe he should think about going back to 205, it's pretty wide open right now.

It's almost inhuman how athletic Romero is at age 38, I hate to throw PED accusations out there but that dude is a freak and cat quick for a dude who is almost 40. If he wants to take you down, you're going down, I don't give a damn who you are.

The combo he threw that looked like - hook, flying knee, attempted ankle pick was nuts. If he had pulled off the ankle pick it would be forever in the UFC highlight reel. Basically hook, flying knee, and then this:

Yeah it's crazy, a 38 year old with that many miles on him should not be moving like that and doing those things.

Not sure how old he is but he is 29-1 and a world champion, he fights exclusively out of Germany I believe.

Speaking of Romero, if he never speaks publicly again, I'll be ok with that. I can't stand any of these fighters who don't talk about the fight after and just go on a jesus tangent.

Uniforms were revealed today, and from what I saw they looked horrible. The fighters modeling them looked like kids dressed up in pink bunny outfits. This deal really looks like a total disaster.

I think the uniforms makes them look more professional but I like the individuality of the fighter. I like watching Machida walk out in a karate gi, or GSP. Takes the personality of the fighter away.

Aldo officially out of UFC 189, pretty much what I expected. He couldn't even train how the hell was he gonna make weight?
