Anyone comparing Guilda's fight Friday to Condit's against Diaz is probably a Diaz 'hugger'.I Wear Pants;1210980 wrote:I disagree about Condit. It was one fight and it was the right strategy. Also, I think him "running" was severely over reported by fans. You'd have a point if he didn't land more strikes. (Significant and total).
Condit completely outstruck Diaz, and it wasn't that close if I remember correctly.
Guida just ran, and I'm a Guida fan.
Oh, and as expected the Franklin/Wanderlei fight was a great one.
Being a fan of both of those guys I couldn't have asked for a better fight.

Not comparing the fights - just saying that those 4 fighters have looked more reserved.jmog;1210995 wrote:Anyone comparing Guilda's fight Friday to Condit's against Diaz is probably a Diaz 'hugger'.

I think Condit won't look like that always, it's just that it was the intelligent way to fight Diaz.
Guida did run the whole time though.
I hope Franklin can make another title run, he's a class act all around. And he's from Ohio.

That was the only way Condit was going to beat Diaz, avoid exchanges with the hands and keep himself off the fence. My only gripe about that was that most of those significant strikes were leg kicks, and a lot of those weren't that heavy, rather he used the kick as a jab to keep Nick away. Nick did out land Condit to the body and to the head. Guida's performance was shameful, like I said, If he thought he was going to impress Dana and earn a title shot with that bs he was dead wrong. Go out on your shield.

Sorry, but leg kicks are just as damaging as body punches (except maybe liver punches).robj55;1211099 wrote:That was the only way Condit was going to beat Diaz, avoid exchanges with the hands and keep himself off the fence. And lets not talk about how many of Diaz' head shots are 'not that heavy'.
http://blog.fightmetric.com/2012/02/condit-vs-diaz-official-ufc-statistics.html
Diaz landed 62 head shots, 54 of which were not considered 'power'.
When you look at total power strikes Condit landed more (even landed more power head shots). Total strikes Condit landed more.
I'm not a Condit fan really but to discredit leg kicks is asinine. You'd never see Diaz admit it, but with 68 significant leg kicks Diaz was not walking well for a few days after that fight and he obviously did not have much power late in the fight because of it.

Not attempting to discredit leg kicks, as they are damaging. But a lot of the ones Condit threw were simply kick jabs, with not much power on them to keep Nick away from him and keep him distance. Doesn't matter now as the fight is long done and over with.

So what's the problem with a "kick jab" vs a punch jab which is what Nick throws tons of. I don't see how it's a bad thing to say about Condit unless you also have a problem with Diaz's use of jabs as well.robj55;1211209 wrote:Not attempting to discredit leg kicks, as they are damaging. Back to Franklin/Wanderlei...
I'm a huge Franklin fan (coolest dude ever, met the guy twice...once at the AMC theatres at Easton Mall in Columbus and one at Atlanta Airport with his wife).
However, he can't be that serious about wanting to fight Anderson again can he?
Maybe he is hoping Sonnen will beat Anderson and Franklin will get to fight Sonnen.
Franklin reminds me of a Fitch (but more exciting) can beat everyone in the division but the champ.
Franklin's only trouble at 185 in my opinion would be Anderson (obviously) and Belfort as they are the exact worst matchups for him (very technical powerful strikers).
Franklin even does well against powerful strikers who aren't that technical (Liddell and Wanderlei) but those that have both just maul him.
I believe Franklin could beat all the top contenders at 185, Bisping, Belcher, Sonnen, Maia, etc except for Anderson and Vitor.
Maybe Franklin is hoping Sonnen wins and he can sneak in a title shot against Sonnen after beating a Belcher/Bisping/Maia type guy.

I didnt get to see the end of the Guida/Maynard fight. Are you telling me they gave Guida the decision? Wow. PPV should've been free but I didnt end up having to pay for it so I cant fully complain. I was hoping Wanderlei would win.

Wandy has no chance at being a contender so i'm happy he lost, i'm tired of watching him fight.

No, Maynard won a decision but the last couple rounds Guida just got 'worse' with the running around instead of engaging. It was so bad at one point the ref (I believe it was Herb Dean in that fight) warned him he would take a point away.bigdaddy2003;1211255 wrote:I didnt get to see the end of the Guida/Maynard fight. Not trying to turn this into a huge thing again. I think the main difference between those two things in THIS instance is that Nick uses his jab to set up other strikes to try and damage and stop his opponent, while Carlos wasn't using that "kick jab" to set up anything to end the fight really.I Wear Pants;1211218 wrote:So what's the problem with a "kick jab" vs a punch jab which is what Nick throws tons of. Anyways, less than two weeks away from the biggest fight of the year and a huge event. I like Chael to win as an early prediction, although I could see Anderson doing a better job of managing the distance and catching Chael with something. Probably the biggest rematch in the history of MMA.

As for Guida, not sure why anyone is shocked by his game plan. Every time he has fought a guy who is clearly more skilled than he is in almost every area, he stalls. He did the same thing against Nate Diaz and Anthony Pettis only in different ways.

I think Spider ends the fight quick. I put 20 bones on it with my buddy the other day. I think I may see if he wants to up it to 50.

He apparently said that the violence he is going to inflict on Chael is going to change the perception of MMA. LOL LOVE it!

He said Chael won't be able to walk out of the Octagon when he is done, I have never heard him talk like this before.

Can't wait for this to get put to bed, I see Anderson demolishing him after toying a bit like the did with Forrest.
