You use it so that you can get the information quickly and then cite from the source links or from a real academic journal or something. It really isn't that complicated.

Wikipedia is the most accurate encyclopedia ever created. People think because anyone can edit it that it's not a valid source of credible information. This is largely a myth. Anytime an article is trolled, within 30 seconds to 1 minute it is changed and edited back to the correct statement. Wikipedia also requires you to link other documentation before making any random statement. It is accurate, not perfect, but accurate.
