Just a question, snot...do you actually like Weber as a coach and think he can take a team to the Elite 8? I WANT him to stay at Illinois, cause I think he is a horrible coach who has a Mid-Major mindset. I think he would dominate at S. Ill again if he went back, but he underachieves year in, year out. I completely disagree that he develops talent into 5 star guys. McCamey regressed, Richardson hasnt become what his talent in HS said it would, same with Paul. Those guys were not 5*, but they were top 50 kids. Thats fucking really good talent. Mike Davis never dominated like he should, nor did Mike Tisdale (though I give him credit for turning them into guys who SHOULD have dominated their JR and SR years. But then when they didnt, its like WTF, Bruce??)

Myers Leonard was like the 30th ranked kid in the class, he is VERY talented. It seems to me that Weber actually underachieves with the talent he has, not develops them into better talent. He plays a style (kudos for him for not doing this last night) that allows teams to stay close. He has too much talent to play a slow game versus inferior talent. Get it and go. Way too many sets and stagnant offense. Its a joke that team struggles the way they do, particularly scoring, with the amount of talent on the court over the last 5 years or so.

Then you have guys like Jereme Richmond and Crandall Head leaving the program.

IMO The ball just continued to go into the net all night on some very tough shots by Illinois. Some nights they fall that was the case last night for Paul and Co.

I actually thought he did play the half court too much last night, too many times they were running the shot clock down to nothing but Paul bailed him out much of the time.

He just kept gaining confidence when OSU couldn't respond with a 3 of their own.

Good point, though they did run and he let his players make more plays out of set than usual. I just dont see how ILL fans can still support this guy as their coach.

It's hard to let a guy go that you've had take you to the finals ('05) even though they were runner ups. It was his second season, but I agree he's not done much since. He definitely peeked in the early 2000's.

So, basically, since Bill Selfs players graduated he hasnt made it past the 1st weekend in March and missed the NCAAs once. Thank God for Illinois he allowed Williams, Head and Brown to actually play and do what they wanted on the court. He didnt hinder that team. They had a bunch of talent, but not THAT much more than some of these squads Weber has had. Yet he has them in a noose and wont loosen the grip. The last 6 years, for me, are enough to let the guy go. Especially for a school who, as Snot mentioned, expects to compete for titles in basketball.

I would suggest that Illinois let's their complacent attitude toward football spill over to their BB program. I really don't see the attitude snot suggests overall coming from the university (obviously). The fan base maybe, but that has yet to translate to the AD. I would have had Weber on the hot seat before Zook were that the case.

I really thought Weber was going to lose his job after last season's disappointment. They have underachieved the last 5 years, and I thought last year was the worst of the bunch. I thought w/ McCamey, Davis and Tisdale, along with the young guys they had (Richmond, Paul, etc) they would have been at least a sweet 16 team. I will be interested to see how they finish this year, because in those last 5 years they haven't fared well coming down the stretch.

I dont really have a problem with most, but most of the country agrees.

I think it has to do with the alumni being spread out across the entire country.

Buford needs to lose playing time, or be taken out when the game is not at hand with less than 5 minutes left. He is a turnover machine.

I just think he needs to give the ball up more when he is off. He seems lost as to what he role is. With Sully and Thomas emerging as a score, Buford needs to be a role player instead of forcing himself to try to be "the guy"

I agree and disagree. He does seem to think that being the leader means his scoring, when that shouldn't be his focus (imo as a senior), but when he's hot he is very tough to control. Thing is though, being his last year annd heading into the draft will he do what is best for the team or what is best for Willy B?

And I think thats BS to be honest. I'd put ND above OSU in a heartbeat. But I also realize, again, that EVERY fan base has theirs. Hell, all the SEC chest thumping alone puts the entire SEC on top IMO!

This I would agree with. And to sit him is ridiculous. Especially when you consider OSU major weakness is outside shooting. Even though Buford has been poor shooting lately, he still has developed a reputation, and every coach game plans to that. Which in turn, opens up other things. That is a fact. Just listen to opposing coaches. Buford name is one of the first, if not the first they talk of.

No, but anytime its brought up OSU is also brought up. Ive been all over the country, and people hate OSU all over. Ive taken shit for being from Ohio and I dont even support them lol.

I do remember a poll on ESPN about most obnoxious fanbases in college football. OSU was #1 (with like 37%), and about half the states had voted that way. I doubt Ill be able to find that though.

I dont really think its a bad thing. Obnoxious, arrogant fans are breed from success. People getting annoyed at those fans is breed from jealousy. But OSU is easily one of the top 5 most hated schools in the country.

well, now for sport specific its a different story. ND fans are hated only for football. Im talking all sports and the school itself.

As for Webber, yes, I am a fan of his as a coach. Recruiting is a different story. He had an opportunity to bring players in just of of the coat tails of Self. Eric Gordon was a soft commitment to Illinois, before switching to Indiana shortly before national signing day. When we lost Gordon, Webber lost his ability to recruit 5-star players. That is frustrating.

The players you mention, Tisdale, McCamey, Davis...none of those guys were highly touted talent. They were 3 and 4 star players coming out of HS. If you look at Webber recruiting classes, I'm not sure he's gotten more than one 5-star recruit in his tenure. And that is what I mean by, he has been able to develop players. McCamey didn't regress, he gave up at the end of last season. Then again, McCamey was highly overrated because he was playing well above his actual talent level (see Brandon Paul last night).

I didn't say all, I didn't say most...I said many. There were 3 posts on this thread before last night that gave the Illini zero chance of winning. That's arrogance, and just one example. As an Illinois fan, I have never overlooked an opponent or been ignorant enough to (honestly) believe that a team I was cheering for would dominate them. It's sports and I don't like crow. I call things like I see them. For the most part, OSU has a great fan base. It's one of a handful of Universities where collegiate sports is more highly regarded than professional. As an Illinois fan (and a diehard one), I envy that. If you don't see the arrogance though, you're blind. I'll cheer for OSU when they're not playing Illinois...mostly because they've grown on me. But when it's Illinois/OSU time, I hate them...and that's probably because of the arrogance I have to sit through and the jeering and mocking I have to hear as an Illinois fan.
